I’ve worked with Japanese Engineers in the steel mills. PhD’s fill jobs we normally fill with BS Engineers. The PhD’s have BS Engineers that report to them. Methodical and take a long time to get things done.

We, on the other hand, mostly recognize the value of good enough quicker. That does not mean sloppy work. Good engineers rely on science, logic, experience and sometimes intuition.

Wait, what? These engineers are the ones who will look after the public. They, if allowed to, will give their lives to ensure public safety.
