“This kills nuclear energy in this country for the forseeable future. No amount of reasoned arguments will overcome this and any politician who tries will be committing career suicide. I doubt even Rush’s intellectual power. will be able to turn the tide.”

Agreed.

Anyone who tries to argue otherwise, well, good luck.

The nuclear plants here that are currently running will serve out their useful lives, but we won’t be seeing many (any?) more of them.

Time to face reality: there’s only one solution for power generation in this country, and it’s coal, “clean” or otherwise.

We have the coal, we have the means to transport it, and the technology is simple, and safe.

Whether or not you mind the scent of a little coal smoke in the air, well - that’s up to you. I don’t mind it at all.

Conservatism is about seeing reality and understanding its implications and consequences. Anyone who doesn’t see Japan’s disaster for what it is, is a fool.

If things get really bad there, prevailing wind patterns may even affect us HERE.

The new slogan for the coal industry ought to be:
“Coal — if our plants break, you won’t radiate!”

It’s really that simple.

Not to be contrary, I am very pro nuke, but most coal also releases radioactive elements into the atmosphere. At least its carbon content fertilizes plants .
