It was a password designed to detect those who weren’t from Gilead. After the Gilead army had defeated the Ephraimite army, the Ephraimites were trying to get back across the river, the fords of which had been taken over by the forces of Gilead. Some really smart Gilead army guy figured out a simple way to figure out who was who. The Ephaimite dialect had no “sh” sound. So if someone trying to cross the ford was asked to say “shibboleth” and he wasn’t a good mimic and said “sibboleth,” he was killed.

Didn’t the Americans come up with a similar test for spotting Nazis in post-WWII Germany?
“t is jealousy somewhat, but mostly fear I think, because they absolutely cant stand someone being capable and making sense and getting things done and drawing crowds, who doesnt have the background.”
Actually, I think it is fear of someone who won’t want or need their help and council. The Republican elites can’t imagine a world where a Republican is in the White House and they do not have access and are not brought in on every little decision.
Was Reagan a member of the Bohemian Club?
The RINO elite’s flatulent filled attacks make me want to vote for her even more. My second choice at this point is Allen West. Combine the two into one hell of a ticket.
I don’t care if I ever see Kraut, Will or the others ever again. I used to defend Kraut to my family and friends when they commented about him being stiff. I let them all know about his paralysis, but now, I don’t want to watch or listen to him long enough to explain to others about his condition or his credentials.
They are making me sick. They have jumped the shark on Sarah and it is disgusting.
Rove, Krauthammer and Will remind me of the three you-know-who's.
N'yuk n'yuk n'yuk!
PDS means never having or being able to explain why you’re stupid.
I've no idea.
What difference would it make, anyway?
Delete Palin from your mind for a moment and try to comprehend that one can dislike a (touted) candidate(s) without having a preferred candidate(s). Some of you people really are ignoramuses.
Fair enough. For sure, all of them who double as politicians...
If you have a good idea, that you KNOW will work, WHY do you have to do any navel gazing over it? I don't give a rat's rear end about the PHILOSOPHY of the idea, I just want to know why that person thinks the idea will work. Sarah's 'talking points' give me that.
I can not spell and don’t look...people have been laughing at me..he he thanks..
the progressives don’t like her.
keep in mind.. progressives are in both parties. they are known as RINOs in the GOP
Re: “Didnt the Americans come up with a similar test for spotting Nazis in post-WWII Germany?”
Don’t know about post-war, but varios shibboleths were used by the Allies in WWII. I’ve cut’n’pasted the following from wikipedia:
During the Battle of Normandy in the Second World War, the American forces used the challenge-response codes “Flash” - “Thunder” - “Welcome”. The last response was used to identify the challenger as a native English speaker (and therefore not an enemy), whereas the German enemy would pronounce it as “Velcome”. This caused problems for German Jews serving in the U.S. Army.
Similarly during Operation Chariot the British raiders used the challenge “War Weapons Week” and the countersign “Welmouth”, likewise unpronounceable by most Germans.
In the Pacific Theatre of Operations, the shibboleth was lollapalooza, whose pronunciation produces severe difficulties for native speakers of the Japanese language (another was Lucille Ball).
Woolloomooloo was used by Australian soldiers in the Pacific Theatre during the Second World War to identify themselves when approaching a camp.
great poster: Sarah Palin...
Look at who her enemies are....
NOW.... choose a side!
They are scared to death of her and they know she can win...pissant knows that well plus he said women should not be able to vote let alone be CIC...he said that..
With the “establishment” insides serving up leftovers of Romney and Newt, I can’t say I care much for their criticisms of other potential candidates or spokespeople.
I don’t think the intellectuals or academics have served us well at all. More common sense is called for and desperately needed...people with real world experience.
I don’t appreciate being looked down on and when those elites look down Sarah Palin, they’re looking down on America.

My I have your permission to save and use that pic?
I think the hatred toward Palin comes from fear. The left knows she is a force to be reckoned with.
If she is our nominee and candidate I will volunteer my time, fight tooth and nail to get her elected in whatever small way I can in my communist state of Illinois. I won’t quit until the pundits call the electoral college one way or another on election night.
Having said that, I am very nervous that because of the hatred toward her, even on our side that she may not be electable. It’s going to take a huge force to beat Obama.
We simply MUST win the next election. The country cannot survive another Obama term.
