It is an admirable trait that has been lost to the general public in the US. Katrina is the perfect example. Sit on your a$$ and let someone else save you.

I’ve been interested in science since I was a kid so I have a pretty fair understanding of how reactor work and what fallout is etc.

Worst case, the reactors can be entombed like Chernobyl (Which was many orders of magnitude worse)

On the other hand, victims of the ice storm of 2009 and the Nashville flood last year didn't go crying to the federal government for help - they dealt with it. There are still people in the US able to bear down and tackle major problems. By and large, they are not democrats.
