Do they have dosiometers on the ship?I know that they have wearable ones for the engine crew ,but is there one on the bridge as well?
Sensing & Detection
Chemical, Biological, Radiation and Nuclear detection systems are sensor systems used to detect environmental conditions in air and water. Hamilton Sundstrand offers a palate of equipment comprising a Chemical Biological Mass Spectrometer (CBMS), a Total Ozone Mass Spectrometer (TOMS), a Major Constituent Analyzer (MCA), a Wide Field Imaging Spectrometer and several Gas Process Analyzers. Several of these systems are currently in use on submarine and space platforms and are directly applicable to use of surface ships.
I would expect that they have rad detection capability in any air-handling equipment, which is probably what alarmed. Once that happened, the health physicist types undoubtedly put film badges on "non-reactor" personnel.
All of our front-line warships are fully capable of operating in an NBC (nuclear, biological, chemical) environment. The Reagan’s class of ship was designed in the Cold War, with the clear threat of actual nuclear warfare.
This probably causes about as much trouble for the Reagan as a ten-foot wave.
They probably had an old cold war detector mounted somewhere that started raising holy hell. Everybody was standing around looking at it till the Chief realized what it was and went “oh ****”.
