If Indians dont like it they can always go back to Asia.
Actually they were from the east coast. They butchered other tribes and then got their backsides handed to them the entire way across to the plains. The other tribes were not particularly fond of them (many are not until this day). They settled in the Dakotas after wiping out the other indigenous tribes there.

But lets make Notre Dame get rid of that Fighting Irish nickname and that insulting little mascot.
On the behalf of my G-G grandfather who came from Ireland, I have a right to be offended -- especially if I can make some money from being offended.
And if you don't like it, then put you're dukes up.

You think they grew out of the ground?

The vote was 28-15 with four senators absent and not voting,
Wanna bet the four were RATS?

My grandfather was a full-blood Dakota Sioux — his favorite NFL team? Washington Redskins - his son’s favorite team?
Washington Redskins!!
Truly amazing is it not?
To: Mr. Wright
It is amazing how many Indians love the Washington Redskins. I see Navajos everyday wearing Redskins or Cleveland Indian ball caps. The libbies need to find something more constructive to do with their time.

I was really hoping the Fighting Whiteys had a chance if the name was going to be changed.

Yet Florida State keeps the Seminole name. Could it be all the sales of Fl State gear that the NCAA gets a cut of?

If Indians dont like it they can always go back to Asia. I don't think it was the Indians, per se.
Although the proper name for those tribes is the Lakota people. Sioux was what their enemies called them. It was not a term of endearment. OTOH, it was a term with a certain amount of respect, since in general those enemies got their asses kicked. :)

The Indians are also proud that their names are used for the helicopters in Attack Helicopter units in the U.S. ArmyNot just attack helicopters.. all helicopters. Black Hawk, the famous war chief of the Sauk tribe was from the Mississippi Valley. He met with President Jackson. The Chinook are a Northwestern tribe. The UH-1 "Huey" was named the Iroquois. The "Mash" type H-13 (Bell model 47) was none other than the Sioux.

That doesn’t always guarantee the school can keep the name.
To: FlingWingFlyer
It doesnt bother any of the Indians that I know. They wear a lot of these logos on their hats and jackets.Right on. The schools took those names because they recognized that they were proud people with brave, valiant warriors. Using the name is not mockery or a slur; they chose the name because they respected them and their abilities in a virtuous way. It is an honor.

One of my coworkers is three-quarters Southern Cheyenne and one-quarter Southern Arapaho and he is one of the biggest Redskins fans I’ve ever met. He always takes a week of vacation so he can go over to watch their first week of training camp.
