I’ve noticed a significant downsizing in the packaging, along with the rise in price.

I thought I was getting a heck of a deal on Pringles yesterday, a buck a can. Til I got home and realized it was about 3 inches shorter than the original.

They’re also packaging cereal in these little $1 size boxes. Catering to small budgets but the unit price skyrockets.

I made some tuna fish sandwiches the other day for the first time in a long time.

Surprise! One can isn’t enough for a couple of sandwiches anymore. It’s all the way down to 5 oz. It used to be near 7, if I recall.

When we remodeled, I positioned the bathroom shelves to fit two stacked rolls of toilet paper exactly. Today, there is a good inch gap between the rolls and the next shelf. Another FReeper pointed this out a few weeks ago and yes, I see there is about a 1/4” difference from a previous purchase to some I bought the other day so they’re still shrinking. Look at how much excess room there is on a tp holder rod to see how much they have shrunk. Same thing with the paper towel holder.

I heard a caller to Rush Limbaugh try to explain that to him, and how it’s an unaccounted for factor in inflation. Rush kept telling the caller it wasn’t that big a factor and didn’t matter. I wanted to scream at him. It obviously IS a factor, has been going on for years, and most certainly does drive up the per unit price of any product. It is stunning that a man as knowledgeable about economics as he absolutely is would not know or realize that.

I know what you mean. Some years back when Pepsi became the number one soft drink you couldn’t find a single 12oz. can of it in any 7-11 or Wawa. All you could get was the 16oz. size for a $1.20. Marketing ploys!
