Unexpected problems at another plant as well. Could be nothing more than the unprecedented magnitude of the event. Or it could be, as I said to Mrs. Lurkin yesterday, the time when sleeper saboteurs come out of the woodwork.

They failed because the plant was hit by the tsunami right after the quake. It’s right on the sea.

Uh, diesel generates don’t run well on diesel fuel mixed with sea water...?

The left is already pushing the anti nuclear power plant agenda so people can die near their 0 power windmills. They are shameless fools and liars and hateful power mongers who use fear and lies in every situation to deceive the mush minded of the world.

The report that came out yesterday was "saltwater contamination". That may be seawater in the fuel supply or the whole powerhouse being swamped by the tsunami. But in either case diesel motors don't like saltwater. And electrical equipment likes it even less.

The video of the explosion was scary. They aren’t letting out what really happened.

Check out where these plants are. They’re right ON the coast. As in, “if you have a really good casting arm, you can probably fish off the second floor balcony of the plant.” They’re ON the shoreline.
Not only that, but they’re less than 20 miles from the epicenter of the quake (or what is now being called the epicenter).
First they got the crap shaken out of them, then they had seawater poured over their heads. All things considered, they’re doing a pretty good job of holding it together.

I fear the hysteria from this will further delay the construction of 200 nuclear power plants that need to be built in America - or yet may get the issue on the table - and maybe start building them tomorrow. I'm afraid with the current new agers in Washington, the issue will be further delayed until 2012. Can't wait until truth and science return. What a waste. . .

Think about how much more densely populated the area around that plant is, compared to Chernobyl. And remember most of the radioactivity effects were felt in Belarus, which was hundreds of miles away.

The Eco-freaks and environMENTALISTS are going to have a field day with this. Another Chernobyl disaster. We will in all likelyhood NEVER EVER see another nuke plant built in the Unites States, given the influence the Eco-freaks have on our Fed Govt (the ones that have to issue construction permits). Makes no difference which party is in power - it ain't gonna happen. We better all hope for better and more efficient windmills given who is still controlling things in this country. I see Obama was almost orgasmic yesterday bashing the oil industry.
The Soros/Boy King/Alinsky plan is right on schedule and this country is in a world of hurt.

I'm no engineer but darned if it wouldn't occur to me that a plant that near the coast should be protected from a large wave. Not to mention the absolute necessity of having a sure-fire backup system for cooling the reactor. I know it's a great deal more complicated than my education and experience can grasp, but it sure seems to me they had not prepared for an event that is a known threat in that area of the world.
It's very frustrating that every time we have one of these major events, like the Gulf oil blowout for instance, in hindsight there's almost always a couple of really basic things that led to the problem or made it much worse than it had to be.
I can just imagine the effect this will have on our attempts to bring nuclear power online to help break our dependence on foreign oil.
Both earthquakes and tsunamis are a real threat to that region of the world. Not so for much of the USA, but you can bet we'll hear about this ad nauseum as the Greenies kick into high gear.

Heard the media is now not permitted within 30 miles of any of the plants. The cover-up begins?

If an earthquake causes a bridge to collapse, and someone is killed, does that mean that all bridges are unsafe and should be banned?
Just asking.

Before everyone overreacts to this latest nuclear accident, which the facts are not known and is still ongoing, read about the truth of Chernobyl.
Have you seen the recent pictures of the new Hiroshima? While nuclear accidents or explosions are very serious, they are NOT the end of the world.
The anti nuke crowd will exploit this latest event to the max. The hype will be to the moon. Let us remain rooted in the truth with facts.
