A San Diego-based, nuclear powered aircraft carrier, the USS Ronald Reagan, is headed toward Japan today to stand ready to assist victims of the earthquake and tsunami.
Commander Greg Hicks of the Navy in San Diego said the Reagan was already in the Western Pacific. The Reagan belongs to the San Diego-based 3rd Fleet, but was scheduled to join the Navys 7th fleet in Japan as part of her routine deployment.
Hicks added that the hospital ship, the USS Mercy, is currently in San Diego Bay undergoing maintenance, but that she could be activated if necessary.
Lt. Cmmdr. John Perkins of Pacific Fleet headquarters said the aircraft carrier and her crew of 5,000 should arrive off the northeast coast of Japan around midday Saturday (U.S. time). He said aircraft carriers are uniquely equipped to help in disasters like these because they can produce thousands of gallons of potable water a day.

Reagan to the rescue.
a note:
...during his speech Odumbo couldn’t bring himself to actually name the carrier responding to the crises....all he could manage to say “was a carrier”....
It's only fair considering all the money they have spent on us after all.
Like during Katrina and Ike..
What? Not a dime?
Oh...
Not us not forget the Anphib. ships that are there & on the way to help too.
We have a Christian obligation to help others in need. It doesn't matter whether or not Japan has helped us in our time of need. We help people that need help. That's how we roll.
Maybe we should take one of our carriers slated for retirement and convert it to a crisis response ship full time and leave our combat assets alone. Then let those in the world complain.
That’s not a bad idea really.
I can’t tell you how much I agree with your post 100 percent. We are the dumbest country with regards to finances. We are trillions in debt but we are going to go and assist another country. They have a carrier there already.....the George Washington is right there. Two carriers are now going to be using fuel and supplies with money we DON”T HAVE.

Actually I think it is a sin to be in debt and I would imagine that God wants us to take care of our out of sight debt before spending more on a country that is rich. Just a thought.
Really like that idea. Rescue services for a small fee of course :)
Go help 'em then.
Me, I'm broke.
Are you really broke? Are you without a home recently damaged by mud/tsunami? Are you facing months of devastation and clean up that is much worse than I could possibly imagine? Are you truly that bad off? If so, then I hope there are people to help you, too. I wouldn’t wish this devastation on my worst enemy. Even a rich country is going to need all the help it can get after an event like this.
This Country is on the brink of destruction. Maybe already over the edge of the precipice.
It would be great if we could help out everyone on the planet
who is sad or poor or wiped out or has water on the floor.
Fact is we can’t.
Japan needs to suck it up and deal with it.
We didn’t make the freakin’ tsunami.
Japan can cope or fail.
America has done it, more than once.
So sorry, but we have nothing left in the “help the wet” fund.
USS Missouri is available.
Wow. You can go ahead and keep that attitude. I’ll stick with mine.
I appreciate your permission to do so.
You go ahead and wipe yourself and your family out in order to
help folks who don't know you and probably wouldn't like you.
