Nothing illegal. And she is getting paid through the end of the school year. Obviously, she does not have tenure and won’t be extended. That’s all.

I agree. We don't know why she changed careers. It could have been a Christian conversion or just a desire to get into something with (ahem) less occupational risk.
With teachers boinking students and using them for political shields as in Wisconsin, I really don't think a discovery such as this should be a career ender, particularly if she enjoys teaching and was doing a good job.
While she would have to put up with a lot of teasing about this discovery, she could also use it as a teaching opportunity on how decisions, both good and bad, can alter your life and the lives of others.
