They did this during Reagans first term. Practically every single night, each of the big three networks had a story about how "ordinary people" were "alarmed by the direction the country was taking." They were crying, screaming, begging the President to listen to them. But did he hear their cries? No.

Old people, young people, students, doctors, professionals, goverment employees, private sector employees... all were interviewed in their turn, and they all said the same thing. President Reagan is ruining the country. I can't sleep at night. I'm worried about my job. I'm worried about my kids future, their education, their chances to get a good job. On and on and on.

Polls were flashed on the screen virtually every night. No one supported Reagan. His policies were very unpopular, and growing more so every day. There were massive anti-war, anti-nuclear, anti-SDI demonstrations in Europe, in the Soviet Union, in the United States. Whole media events (like The Day After) were coordinated on the major networks with policy speeches by the opposition Democrats, all to show that Reagan's policies were opposed by ordinary people all over the world. Thinly-disguised anti-American, anti-Reagan songs made the top 40 play lists.

He didn't listen. He didn't even comment on them. He "stayed the course."

In 1984 he won a landslide victory. A real The media is trying to get Scott Walker to cave, the way the California media and unions got Arnold Schwartzenegger to cave. They're running the same playbook in Wisconsin, with help from the national media and the White House. They've got multi-billion dollar slush funds to use.

Don't be fooled.
