Man, I hate to hear this...I have always been fascinated with ancient Egyptian culture and artifacts, and with Zahi's unbridled enthusiasm when teaching about them...I say the King Tut exhibit in the 70s, and it was simply amazing. Now I'm afraid my children will never get to go to Egypt and see the most important artifacts from ancient history (which are no doubt being sold by thieves to the highest paying bidders even as we speak) and that is really sad to me. :*(

were scheduled to leave for Egypt on Jan.28th,but the trip
was cancelled. We don’t know if we’ll ever get there?

In his defense I’ll say he’s protective of the Egyptian antiquities. Beyond that he’s an arrogant ass who is far too interested in protecting his own theories from competition. (No I don’t buy the ancient aliens garbage)

GGG ping? Not directly related to archaeological finds, but certainly brings up some serious questions about long-term curation of artifacts in politically unstable countries.

George Noori (of Coast to Coast AM) was cheerleading for Zahi’s ouster last night, as he was not sufficiently forthcoming on the alien agenda. Be careful what you wish for.

Hasn't the same happened in Iraq? Then the wold immediately turned on Bush --- even in this one thing amids a war --- and blamed the U.S. and him personally for... the savage state of that society.
Unfortunately for the MSM media and Europeans, there is no American troops and no Bush to push around in the case of Egypt.
I agree with you Pilut48, of course; this kind of damage may be irreversible. But that is why people have to protect what they value. The Christian world did not care about Constantinople and Alexandria --- too late to be saddened now.
We have not even learned our lessons, judging by the acute self-hattred afflicting the Western word. We'll soon weep about more than the ancient Egyptian treasures.. With 5% of Protestants, 6% or Catholics and almost 15% of Muslims in Amsterdam, for instance, what do you think will happen to all those European cathedrals? The same as what happened to Hagia Sophia in Istanbul: it's now the Aya Sofya mosque.
There will much more to weep about very soon.

To me, he always came across as a publicity hound, a flim-flam archeologist, horning in and co-opting the work of others.

As arrogant this man is, this must be breaking his heart.
Not surprised, though. The moslem’s are not good to ANYbody else’s history. They can’t stand the truth.

Most of Egypts antiquities are other gods or memorials to other gods. Watch for all of them to be destroyed.
To: pillut48
seems to me a good time to steal artifacts himself and blame the looters. he could always say he was “protecting” national treasures.

I’ve always enjoyed Hawass’ enthusiasm when he was teaching about the antiquities. I’m sad to see him go.
