ANOTHER URGENT PRAYER REQ FOR MISSIONARY WARRIOR FAMILY:
Prayer Request

A little background and a prayer request.
I just received this prayer request from the husband of a young lady that I taught in church and was her youth advisor in high school. She and her brother Eric were stalwarts in the youth group and super athletes in high school and college. Her husband is a translator with Wycliffe and the family has lived in the Ivory Coast, Central African Republic, Senegal and New Guinea. Laura has taught womens bible studies and opened health clinics in each area where her husband has worked as an adjunct to his ministry.
Her parents helped start my fathers church back in the 1950s. They taught my brothers in Sunday School and now are active in my church and are part of the Adult class that I teach. About 6 years ago their son Eric died of cancerous brain tumors. He left a tremendous testimony of helping any one that was in need.
Please pray for Laura and Steve and the family. They have two college age children. Pray for Lauras mom and dad who are again suffering through the potential of burying another child. Both parents have been giants in the faith through Erics cancer and now this but they are in their early 80s and the strain is beginning to show.
Hi folks,
When last I wrote, we were rejoicing to report to you that Lauras PET CT scan showed her free of cancer. The radiologists report in Oregon said, no malignancy and specifically no evident melanoma. However when we came down to the UC San Francisco Melanoma Center a few days ago for a second opinion, the oncologist here was concerned by an abnormality that showed up in the scan above Lauras kidney. He ordered a more detailed scan of the area and it has revealed a fairly large tumor there. He told us last night he strongly suspects it is another melanoma, but Laura will need to have a needle biopsy next Monday to remove a bit of the tumor so they can test it to be sure (it will take another 7-10 days for results on that). We fervently pray its not another melanoma, because that would put her at Stage 4, and he said at that point surgery would no longer be an option. So wed appreciate it if you would continue to pray
Laura is doing amazingly well - shes her usual cheerful self, always attentive to building up those around her. But when we got the news last night it was difficult, and today she and I went to the library just so she could sit by herself awhile with her Bible and journal. She got a call which she took outside, and then as she came back in, a man near the entrance, a total stranger, spoke a word of encouragement to her that was totally unexpected, almost like he had somehow read exactly what she had just written in her journal. Both she and I concluded it had to have been an angel sent by the Lord to strengthen her. So even though weve had a few downs on the roller coaster this last few days, the Lord is helping us keep our eyes above, because thats where our help comes from (Psalm 121:1-2).
