is it okay to dry fire a handgun hundreds of times as he suggests?? Snap caps (Here, here for example) are your friend. Some manufacturers warn against dry firing on an empty chamber. Snap caps are cheap, broken pistols are expensive.

I see you’ve already had the answer of snap caps mentioned. An ex military weapons repairman told me it was OK to dry fire a centerfire, but not rimfire weapons.
