As the March 4 deadline looms for a government shutdown, President Barack Obama warned Capitol Hill lawmakers not to allow gridlock to prevail, urged them to resolve the partisan stalemate and compromise on a short-term federal budget.
Both Democratic and Republican leaders in the House and Senate have said they believe its important to keep the government running while we work together on a plan to reduce our long-term deficit, Obama said in his weekly address to the nation Saturday. Given that, I urge and expect them to find common ground so we can accelerate, not impede, economic growth.
