Does Obama Want $8 Gasoline?
IBD Editorials ^ | February 25, 2011 | Staff

Energy Policy: While we sit on abundant oil and natural gas reserves, prices at both the wellhead and the pump are rising on fears of spreading Mideast turmoil and short domestic supply. But then, maybe that's the plan.

The silver lining for this administration in the gathering storm over the Middle East may be what it's doing and may yet do to energy prices. The average price for gasoline jumped nearly 12 cents a gallon last week to $3.287, according to AAA. But at the White House, that's not necessarily bad news.

Oil has surged to 2 1/2-year highs as the chaos in Libya chokes that nation's exports. Yet among the "full range of options" the Obama administration is considering as the Libyan crisis festers, and the lit match of discontent gets perilously close to Saudi oilfields, ordering the full resumption of domestic oil and gas production is not one of them. Why?

Energy Secretary Steven Chu has said that "any disruption in the Middle East means a partial disruption in the oil we import. It's a world market, and (a disruption can) have real harm on the price." And so, we would think, would the orchestrated and carefully planned disruption of domestic supply by this administration.

Does anyone remember the fake outrage by Pelosi in 2006 when the prize of gas was $2.36 a gallon? Now she is totally silent about it

>>Does Obama Want $8 Gasoline?<<

Actually, in an interview he gave when he was running for president he made it pretty clear that the answer to that question is, yes.

Sure, why not? He doesn’t pay for gas, and his cronies are so rich they don’t care, as are most Senators and Congresspeople. They’re not buying gas cards so church members can get to services.

I hope they all die horribly and slowly.

Yes he does. I believe he is planning to manufacture inflation, and then have his minions turn it down again right before the election.

In a word - yes. Watch for them to change the federal gas tax to a percentage instead of a fixed fee per gallon.

Very high gas prices would benefit the rich; by keeping the riff-raff (me, for instance) off the road, and eliminating congestion.

BTW, gas here in BC is now $5.00/U.S. gallon. We're still driving.

Obama has said in the past he’d like to see $5 gas. Just not a quick run up. He knows the lib media will not rail about it like if it were a Repub prez.

At least $8, maybe more. One of his goals is to kill off the private vehicle. He want to force us to ride buses, trains, and cabs unless we pay some outrageous fee to operate a private vehicle. And I am sure he would require us to buy tickets with some kind of card so he can track where we are going.

Rush said $8-$10 gallon of gas will never happen. Said Americans will just cut back drastically and the laws of supply and demand will rule

BP is selling most of their US holdings. No one knows to whom, but the two top candidates are China and Petrobas.

We’ll keep driving, too, and eat rice and beans. But higher gas prices make a hugh dent in the profits of small businesses. Back in 2008, my husband persuaded a neighbor (originally from the Dominican Republic) to vote Republican, because the neighbor has a handman business, with several vans and trucks, and gas prices were killing him. Republicans favor more drilling and cheaper gas, Democrats want you to pay more. Who you gonna vote for?
