My daughter went out the door on her way to work one morning to find several officers standing inside her back gate...they were there to serve a felony warrant on her next door neighbor and were inside her gate to watch to see when the neighbor left his house so they could get him outside. I was surprised they didn’t tell her ahead of time but maybe they didn’t get a chance before she went outside. She did say nothing like that to really wake you up in the morning.

Hoo boy. (Or girl)

Drug dealing, is my guess.

At least it wasn’t a SWAT team descending on the neighbors.

I had an inquisitive officer come one other time and he kept asking am I OK? am I sure I’m OK? When I insisted yes several times, finally he said that the 911 operator had gotten a 911 call from my phone number and all the operator had heard was some vague noises. I said I wasn’t aware of anything wrong but I’d be glad to check my telephone for problems, and the officer went his way. Later it dawned on me that my cat, who had knocked that phone off the hook several times before, had probably managed to step on the emergency dial button as well.

I just don’t seem to attract a lot of attention from police, and I say that as an avowedly lousy driver. Two tickets in thirty years, and one was for “excessive smoke” (I’ll have to share that story some time). Maybe they think I’m a cop or detective too. A shaved head tends to do that... the Kojak look.
