I don't get this. It's unclear who got the police involved since it seems (at least from this article) that the school was letting the matter drop and had not called the police.

Seems to be a lot missing from this story.

But my guess is the teacher mentioned it to someone and was then advised that if only to cover her keister legally, she ought to make a formal report. Next thing you know, the doughnut boys are called up to defend the nation.
