Ayep. Emergency packs - fully stocked and emergency rations and water. Oh and a GOOD first aid kit. It’s the best you can do. I really do not want to see that happen in my lifetime, or my childrens.

Thank goodness. I happened to be in a 7.6 in the ME many decades ago. An official estimate placed the toll at 17,127 killed and 43,959 injured, but many sources suggest the actual figure may have been closer to 45,000 dead and a similar number injured. It was terrifying.
Speaking of shaking, the tremors and small quakes within the New Madrid system have really increased in number lately. Check the number of tremors beginning on February 16th:

I just learned that my congresscritter Rick Larsen is down there on “official business”.
While the earthquake is tragic. It needs to be pointed out that Rick Larsen will DO ANYTHING to avoid spending time with those of us who work and live in WA 2nd district.
Larsen would rather jump on a plane and fly 18 hours one-way to New Zealand in the hopes that he won’t have to defend his inexcusable support of bailouts, Pelosi and Obamacare.
Have you ever noticed that these costly congressional “trips” to the southern hemishphere always occur during our winter months?
I just checked the weather forecast for Wellington, NZ. tomorrow is sunny and about 70 degrees.

Thanks for getting in touch Elliot.

,,, thanks!
We're in the lower North Island so we're OK. Christchurch had a 7,1 on September 4 last year but they reckon that was nothing compared to yesterday's 6,3.
Glad you and yours are safe! Will continue to pray for those in Christchurch.
Good Luck to you folks down there!
My only special interest in New Zealand is the filming of ‘The Hobbit’, which has had many problems. Do you know if their filming locations have been damaged?
Prayers up for you and yours, and the fine people of New Zealand shaggy eel. Stay in touch if you can and know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers.
Regards,
AR
Glad to know that you’re not one of the casualties John!
Earthquakes should be reserved for ugly places, not Christchurch.
hey everyone I am posting this from Christchurch.
You would not believe the damage here, whole central city destroyed (2nd time in 5 months) 75 dead, 3-400 missing, most without power and water (very blessed here)
This is just crazy. Check out stuff.co.nz if you want coverage.
Dear CNZ:
Please know that our prayers are with all of you there. I have a background in geology, and I noted the signs of liquifaction in the first photos I saw. That can be very bad, and it looks like it was.
