Ironic. FaceBook,Myspace,Twitter are called Social Websites, but they are not about socializing at all.
They are really about avoiding social contact, even to the point of texting a 'friend' who is sitting 10 feet away from you, rather than speak to them in person.
People walk down the street, or ride in vehicles, totally absorbed into texting on one of these websites, oblivious to the other humans around them.
I think these 'social websites' serve a purpose (like make the owners rich) and can 'aid' us in our lives, but in the end, they are what you make of them.
Great point about these people avoiding socializing. I've got a cell phone, but have never sent a text message to anyone. It's only been since last July when I ended up in the hospital for a week that I now keep my cell phone turned on. Up until that time, I only turned it on when I wanted to call anyone. I have a landline, but most of the calls I get are wrong numbers. Frankly, I don't know how people can figure out how to text messages, when they can't even dial a phone number correctly.
Something I've been saying for years. The advances in communication technology are destroying people's ability to communicate.
