At the time that Barry was born, a child of an unwed mother had to be given the mother’s last name, not the father’s name. Obama’s parents were not legally married.

Many have made bc requests for all the names he could have used (Dunham, Obama, Soetoro, Davis) as well as various spellings of those. Hawaii has released the computer generated index of Dunham/Obama marriage, however they won't show the original filing or the original handwritten index or anything showing the date it was originally filed. How could Dunham been legally married to Obama if Obama was already married. Even Obama has said that he doesn’t know if his parents were ever legally married. He said that he never looked into it because he didn’t want to go there.
