I nearly slammed into the back of somebody who did this to me - I was going 40 MPH and the light had just changed - my lane was clear, so she didn’t realize I had no need to slow down at all. Then she got pissed at me for honking at her. Dumbarse.

I'm convinced that many drivers are unaware that they DO NOT have the right of way when turning right on a red.

"I nearly slammed into the back of somebody..." but "...I had no need to slow down at all." I don't follow your logic here. To me it always makes sense to slow down a bit at an intersection, knowing there's a good chance someone will pull out in front of me. Defensive driving.
