Arizona lawmakers are trying to widen the state's illegal immigration crackdown with a proposal to require hospitals to confirm whether patients are in the country legally.

The National Conference of State Legislatures says it knows of no other states considering similar bills.

The proposal being heard late Monday by the Arizona Senate's judiciary committee would require hospitals to contact immigration authorities if a patient is an illegal immigrant.

This is a BRILLIANT idea! It will keep the illegals from coming to the hospitals and give them one more reason to stay home in Mexico, where they have socialized medicine that is working so well they are coming here!

They keep this up & Arizona might yet become the only other state I’d consider living in.

It’s a brilliant idea if something is done with the information. As it is now, the government often knows that individuals are illegal and does nothing about it.

Also, I don’t see how this stops anchor babies. The hospital notes that the parents are illegal, refers the list to the government, which does nothing about it. The baby is still, by the politically motivated misinterpretation of the 14th amendment, considered to be a US citizen.

Sux to be us.

It’s a brilliant idea until the first mother or baby dies in a home birth.

What we need to do is change the laws on birthright citizenship.

Where is FL, TX and other states? FL and TX have big GOP majorities (of stinking RINOs).

Love to see Florida grow some nads and mimick Arizona.
So many illegals and ICE NEVER comes to all the little towns surrounding the big lake.

Yes.

I dislike most of the people, but love the state.

I love Cali too... I was born here, grew up here from the southern coast to the giant redwoods and some of the best mountain hiking in the world. Avacadoes, grapes that pop in your mouth, best weather ever... laid black, flip-flops in winter.
The government does not make my state any more than Obama makes the United States.

States have little or no say in who is treated in hospitals. Federal legislation such as COBRA and the subsequent automatic cutting off of Federal MediCare and MediCaid dollars rules the roost.

Not exactly. They will simply have the baby in the lobby and then both will require emergency care. Until the Supreme Court rules that Jus Soli is NOT the law of the land, altering the current interpretation of the 14th Amendment, those born on US soil are American Citizens. Note that does not say "in US Hospitals."

It’s about time. All states should have this ruling.

You're kidding, right?

This forces no such thing as going home. It will force them to deliver at home, and sue the city, county or state for any increase in mortality.

Unless the pregnant women are physically taken back over the border, good luck with that.

Not until it's born.
Until then, it's just a tissue mass, like a mole.

Yeah, I don’t think so. In the hospitals that open baby wards it’s full of Mexicans with no insurance getting the baby birthed in luxury compared to home.

They come here just for that.

They didn’t say they’d deport on identification, just that they’d notify. The baby would be born in the US, anyway.
