CPAC, the Conservative Political Action Conference, has been an annual gig for me for years. But this year I concluded it was not my place and I declined to participate in the various venues at the event for which I was invited.
Yes, the reason I declined was the inclusion of GOProud, a group identifying itself as representing gay conservatives and their allies, as a sponsor of the event.
And its the reason why some of the nations most important conservative organizations the Heritage Foundation, the American Family Association, Concerned Women of America, Family Research Council, Media Research Center, and the National Organization for Marriage - did not participate.
The founder and chairman of GOProud removed any doubt on my part that not participating was the correct decision by dismissing these groups as losers, clowns, and not relevant.
I, of course, have been accused of being worse than a clown. The barrage regularly comes in from the left. But this is a first that Ive had to listen to this kind of stuff from a group that postures as conservative.
I became a conservative in church. I thought I was doing okay in my previous life - scamming the welfare system, going to the beach, soaking in my welfare subsidized hot tub, treating sex as a hobby, and abortion as birth control.
In our culture today that views material prosperity as the ultimate barometer of success, the truth is becoming unfortunately lost that the evil man can prosper. And if there is nothing more than what is before our eyes in this world, what does it matter?
When I understood how the culture of welfare state materialism was destroying not just my life, but all of black America, there was no dividing line in my mind between social issues and economic issues. The only dividing line I saw was between right and wrong, good and evil.
The idea of gay conservative is an oxymoron.
Gay is everything that conservative is not.
The foundation of the world view that so-called gay conservatives embrace has far more in common with liberalism than with conservatism.
Its a world view that is man-centered rather than God-centered. It is a world view that rejects eternal truths passed on from the beginning of time. Although the world view that gay conservatives choose to invent may diverge from the world view of liberals, their common ground is they make it all up.
And it is here where gay conservatives and liberals fundamentally depart from conservatives.
Conservatives believe that there are objective and eternal truths, not of the product of any individual human mind, that are transmitted through the generations. Culture is not like HDTV or iPhones where the newest model is the best.
These eternal truths provide the light in the fog that keeps us from crashing on the rocky shores where our base instincts lead us.
Gay is liberal, not conservative, regardless of what their stand may be on government spending or taxes.
Its why, like all liberals, they use language to create reality, rather than appreciate that words have meaning that reflect reality.
So they have re-invented the word gay, re-invented the word marriage, and now they want to re-invent the word conservative.
Finally, we will re-invent the word freedom and well put the final stamp on the idea that a free society, rather than being the path to truth, is the path to meaninglessness.
What individuals choose in private, and for which they bear personal responsibility, is separate from what we sanction publicly for which we all must bear responsibility.
A value-neutral government is impossible. The central battle in our country today is about values and how we understand freedom. It is a battle for our very soul. And, as we learned from CPAC, its not a struggle that is just between Democrats and Republicans.
“Gay activists want the government to deprive employers of the choice to which you refer. “
Some
"GOProud" is clearly a pro-agenda group and I would not want their participation on my side of any campaign.
But I do distinguish between those homosexuals (and their allies) who campaign for special rights and special recognition, and those who do not.
What special rights?
I'm trying to Freep, watch the barn demolition, do laundry while worrying about my cats that are feet away from the demo unless they've run for their lives! :-P
Oh. And I'm on the phone. (i thought life slowed down at 60?)
I would argue that it's impossible for government to destroy sexual, or any other element of, morality.
If the population was moral to begin with, they didn't lose their moral compass as a result of anything the government did.
Do you think a “domestic partner” deserves social security benefits of the dead roomie? Do you think that they should be able to buy healthcare as a “couple”? They want all the perks of a married couple.
LOL!
Name a prominent exception.
Today is our 41st anniversary. Guess he needs to talk to me. LOL We’re still on the phone.
It’s a mistake to overestimate how much the government can do to demoralize a nation. It’s also a mistake to underestimate what it can do. Repealing DADT, for example, won’t make the military gay friendly. NASCAR doesn’t have any rule against gay drivers and the NFL doesn’t have a rule against gay quarterbacks, and yet . . . But the government controls education and much of the nation’s wealth. It can do a great deal to undercut traditional morality. Consider how the Great Society destroyed the Black family in America.
How cool is that! Happy Anniversary! February 14 is easy to remember, even for a man.
Congratulations! That’s wonderful. :)
The answer to the question is easily found by looking at Proposition 8. The conservative view is that the people decide such issues -not government. The free marketplace of ideas premised upon free speech and freedom of religion has debated such issues and assigned value each and every time -it is the moral free market where all but the unalienable is up for debate.
It is when we see government imposed conformity that is premised upon political special interests that we see a divergence from the free market and a divergence from conservatism. Identity politics leads to government tyranny...
Simply put -we are free because of our acknowledgment that no man or government has authority to deny the unalienable endowed by the Creator. The government derives its authority from either the Creator or the people.
The real question to ask is where does the government authority to impose homosexual normalcy upon the people come from if not from the Creator or the people? The answer is self evident and comprises TYRANNY. Government tyranny is NOT conservative. As such, supporting that which promotes government tyranny, homosexual sex identity politics, is NOT conservative.
He sends me cards on Groundhogs Day. He says he knows it’s one of those special days in February. ;-)
That’s funny. :)
I'd disagree with you on this point. A Libertarian is a radical liberal with NO bounds. At least liberals have values, although perverted. Hard-core libertarians, in practice, have none.
I have all but concluded that responding to this homosexual agenda promoting talking point is a fruitless endeavor because premised withing the very question itself are two things that reach out and slap all with even a cursory understanding of Christianity. The first is, whoever asks the question is without a clue regarding Christianity Old versus New Testament and one thing Jesus was all about. The second is, whoever asks the question is a leftist tool parroting leftist talking points.
I smell ozone coming from another "progressive conservative" in the near future...
This year he ordered rose bushes for me and plants that he loves and said I'd have to bury the evidence. That means I get to plant all of it. :-P
Private account, which you could use to set up a trust fund for your dog, if you wanted. Not social insecurity ponzi benefits.
