Given the contentious relationship between his followers and many in the conservative movement, its safe to say that Rep. Ron Pauls address to CPAC this year was one of the more anticipated speeches of the political holiday weekend. And Rep. Paul delivered: railing against the neo-Jacobins that passed the PATRIOT Act, calling for drastic cuts in military spending, and a passionate repudiation of the Federal Reserve.
Opening with a jubilant recognition of the results of last Novembers midterms and, especially, the election of his son Rand to the Senate the tenor of Pauls speech was mostly combative towards the more military wing of the American right than anyone else. Weve given up our devotion to liberty, Paul lamented, appreciating that, while the PATRIOT Act was now history, the fact that it passed at all was infuriating enough. The PATRIOT Act has nothing to do with patriotism they always name it the opposite of what it is, he quipped. The PATRIOT Act is literally the destruction of the Fourth Amendment.

Absolutely. Peace through Strength is not just some cute slogan. It’s the only way in a dangerous world.

Aren’t you glad that there were not people like you in charge during World War 2?
Thank you for your post- I want to pull my hair out when I see partial quotes to bolster an agenda- whether from the founders, the bible or a recipe!
Ron Paul has the foreign policy chops of Nancy Pelosi. The world has been forged by warfare, and this imbecile thinks all we have to do is be nice and it will all go away.
That one and the infamous Eisenhower quote (military industrial complex) bug me the most because when put in context, they mean almost the exact opposite of what the person quoting it intends.
Generally, if the response to a situation can fit on a bumper sticker, it isn’t the right answer.
Without a doubt
so youre saying great britain is on the level with turkey and other “islamcic countries” of today? fine you go with allah and I’ll go with my gut.
Sarcasm away. Of course, if you've listened to what John Bolton has said recently - in great detail - about the mishandling of Iran during and after the fall of the Shah (especially as it relates to Egypt today), it's MUCH closer to what I suggest, than what you suggest.
I guess that's our difference - you would trust Ron Paul with our foreign policy, and I'd prefer to trust a guy like John Bolton.
We'll have to agree to disagree.
I agree. The United States is Broke. Bankrupt. More than a few people who post here have no clue what broke means.
Foreign aid is a waste as is welfare, or ENDLESS benefits to illegals. Paul is right on this.
How many empires ended in the wasteland of Afghanistan?
"It is useless to to attempt to reason a man out of a thing he was never reasoned into."-- Jonathan Swift
Your “GUT” went with Allah long before the concept of the “Best defence is a good Offence” approach. We pretty much have proven that philosophy in 2 World Wars.
And another 9/11 will put more money in our pockets? Oh thats right according to cut and run 9/11 was our fault.
While I agree with that, I would trust neither when it comes to the much more dangerous threats we face to the republic itself, internally.
Oh, there it is.... dang my whole attitude has changed. I now think we should interject into all foriegn affairs, whew thank god for you. You and I are not going to agree so enjoy the sunshine today.
George Washington said “ Beware of Foreign Entanglements.”
perhaps you know better?
Paul is correct that the US needs to get away from Globalism and Communism....the days of being the world’s sugar-daddy are over. I am tired of my tax dollars paying for our foreign policy....and our America wealth being redistributed via bad free trade deals
The problem I have with Paul is that he seems quite ignorant or dismissive of Islamic Terrorism. Even if you were to believe what the 9/11 Truthers say....it still does not dimiss the threat from Islamic Terror....as it reaches many nations worldwide. Note there is no “USS Cole Bombing Truthers”, the “Kenyan Embassy Truthers”, the “Lockerbie Truthers”, etc.....Islamic Terrorism is real and must be eradicated
Of course, we keep our southern border open to Mexico...so any foreign entanglements are moot as long as we keep our border open. National security begins at the border.....you can blow up Afghanistan only so many times and still leave your border open....
I hear what you are saying but how does that equate to giving foreign aid to Egypt? How about stealing from American’s to give to others? That’s immoral too. Charity begins at home. We are broke our children are broke.
There is no mob at my neighbors door my neighbors are American’s. In fact I think that’s a large part of the problem so many have come to think that we have to take care of the whole world. Whether it’s the starving children of Africa/Haiiti or whatever the elites or those posing as messengers deem as a moral cause. Americans interest has been forgotten we are told we are a global community that’s exactly what the elitists of the world preach. I’m not a global citizen I am an American citizen. If I see mob’s at my American neighbors door of course I will help my neighbor but I feel no obligation to send money to Egypt or any other nation.
I will say this; the Patriot Act would have not required nearly as much if they had focused on 99% of the problem after 9/11: Radical muslims insides mosques in the USA.
Were screening the whole population when the problem lies with about 0.01% or less.
Passing the PATRIOT ACT again just helps Eric Holder and Janet Nazipolitano.....supporters of the Patriot Act just gave those two a gift.....to gate-rape and abuse Americans....because they sure are not going to bust Islamic Terrorists
Although I have questions of Paul...some of his critics seem to have no problem with aiding those who aid our enemies
