Well, Google has a history. They also supported Ron Paul’s run for the presidency in 2008, by financing “volunteers” to work in his primary campaign. The common thread would be anti-Semitism. Also a common thread would be Paul’s belief of an internal 9/11 conspiracy, letting the islamists off the hook. It’s fair to say that Google is anti-American.

“He [Mubarack] gave me a lesson in democracy.” I would really like to know what lessons in democracy Mubarack ever gave to his own population, especially as youngsters growing up. America did not become a democracy overnight. We started with things like a somewhat free press, freedom of religion [to the extent one could move away if not free where you lived], various compacts for living an ordered and reasonably fair life, a civic society with various avenues of organization with rights and responsibilities [trade guilds, clubs, militias, churches]. I get the impression that Mubarack allowed very little of those things, and they probably were not taught in the schools.

At any rate, here is the latest from AOL news. Just read the title, perhaps it is not the latest, but there were other links on Egypt at this page. For comment junkies, there are over 3,000 at the bottom of the story:

I hope you are not trying to pigeon hole me in with the crazy media who are shouting Berlin Wall. If so, you are uninformed. A person can hope for good to come from bad without ignoring the bad that appears to be coming. Please read some of my other posts before you continue to hammer me on this one.

Knowing that you are fully aware of this, I believe you will take no offense. America is a civil society, in spite of the many people in D.C., and the media attempt to antagonize the population. There is only one problem, and the media is the most guilty of all ... America is not a democracy, America is a Representative Republic, if it can be kept a Republic, as Ben Franklin warned.

WHITEBOARD
Close

OBAMA’S TAKE: President Obama begins: “There are very few moments in our lives where we have the privilege of witnessing history taking place. This is one of those moments. This is one of those times.”

“Egypt will never be the same,” he says, optimistically. “By stepping down, President Mubarak responded to the Egyptian people’s hunger for change. But this is not the end of Egypt’s transition. It’s a beginning. I’m sure there will be difficult days ahead, and many questions remain unanswered.” (3:07 p.m.)

Obama says he’s “confident” that Egyptians can answer those questions “peacefully,” and he praises the constructive nature of the protests in Cairo. He says “nothing less than genuine democracy” will be acceptable.

He calls on the military to enact a “credible” transition, echoing his previous statements for an orderly changing of the guard. “That means protecting the rights of Egyptian citizens, lifting the emergency law, revising the constitution ... and laying out a clear path to elections that are fair and free,” he says.

“Above all, this transition must bring all of Egypt’s voices to the table,” he says. “The United States will continue to be a friend and partner to Egypt. We stand ready to provide whatever assistance is necessary.” (3:09 p.m.)

Obama speaks more vaguely, praising young Egyptians’ “ingenuity,” and he says Egypt will be able to grow in the world. The “wheel” of history has “turned at a blinding pace,” he says. Recalling the chants of protesters, Obama says, “Egyptians have inspired us.”

“For Egypt, it was the moral force of nonviolence, not terrorism, not mindless killing, but nonviolence, moral force, that bent the arc of history toward justice once more,” he says. He then refers to what he says are echoes of historic moments: the tearing down of the Berlin Wall, Gandhi’s charge for peace. (3:13 p.m.)

Obama wraps up: “Today belongs to the people of Egypt, and the American people are moved by these scenes.”

“The word ‘tahrir’ means ‘liberation,’ “ he says. “It’s a word that speaks to something in our souls that cries out for freedom ... and forever more it will cry out to the Egyptian people ... how they changed their country, and in doing so, changed the world. Thank you.”

With that, Obama walks off, taking no questions. (3:15 p.m.)

this transition must bring all of Egypt’s voices to the table

oh my ... thinking what this means after MB was outlawed in Egypt. One would think the media is falling all over themselves and obama with high fives all around and the champagne being served up in large portions. Cannot say anything else to add to the discussion, in my opinion, yet from the information having seen here at FreeRepublic, there is no doubt, to me, what has happened. May I be wrong.

-————this transition must bring all of Egypt’s voices to the table-——

What a damn joke. He who is redistributing ignores those from who he is stealing.

There are those who rule and those who are ruled. The Egyptian rulers will ease up a bit but will not give the rabble control. The best example for not relinquishing control is America where the rif raf is wreaking havoc.

Ugh.

Obama needs to remember the old adage, no longer politically correct (LOL), it ain’t over til the fat lady sings.

And another, “pride goeth before a fall.”

You know what happened to Herod, who was so full of himself? Interesting read.

This is the quote that stands out in my mind, in a chilling way, coming from my own Christian perspective...

“It’s a word that speaks to something in our souls that cries out for freedom ... “

I have no doubt Obama has something in his soul that is crying out for freedom.

There is a great different between proclaiming the “gospel or good news” and forced conversion of Islam. True Christianity and Islam are 180 degrees out of phase. Jesus Christ invited people to follow Him. He never forced them to.

I forgot to mention that in my Comment #482, the AOL news link also has 500 photos. These are spectacular and fascinating. Soldiers holding babies with beaming parents, the absolute joy on people’s faces, etc. Does anyone here read Arabic. I, and I am sure others here at FR, would love to know what some of the Arabic language banners and signs are saying in these photos.

Yes, we do have a Representative Republic, as except in small groups absolute democracy is impractical. I think that when people hope that Egyptians and others have democracy, that they mean a Republic. The more truly democratic small associations there are in a society, the greater the probability that the Republic will represent majority opinion.

I meant to send my Comment #494 to all of you who have been following the Egypt threads so faithfully. If anyone out there knows Arabic, I think we would love to know what they are saying in some of the 500 photos at the link I supplied at Comment #482. I wish my feeble computer skills enabled me to just repost the link here. Oh well, old dogs, new tricks, sighhh> ;-(

Screwing over Mubarak is exactly right up the alley way of the regime.

They know it causes chaos in Egypt for some time whic is what they want. It's what they are all about, nothing new here really.

The only surprise is that ozero is so inept he managed to piss his buddies the saudis off in the process.

Thanks for the link the the MB article. A freeper posted a site there: It looks like Some Google Execs and pro-movement folks put together a site just for organizing and sharing demonstrations: They are really putting their experience and resources together for a perfect scenario like we have just witnessed.

He’s a doofus! A blithering idiot! He has set back our foreign relations at least 50 years.

All those silly women chanting in “Liberation Square”—where will they be next year, under Sharia law? Wearing burquas and cooking all day for hairy old husbands who beat them senseless?

Some liberation... :(
