February 7, 2011 8:15 P.M. By Robert Costa Sen. Jim DeMint, the conservative star from South Carolina, is keeping a close eye on the emerging 2012 presidential field. New names, he observes, keep popping up. One of those, of course, is former Florida governor Jeb Bush. Rich, Kathryn, and John have all written about Bushs appeal in recent days. DeMint, in an interview with National Review Online, calls Bush one of the best possible presidential contenders. Maybe the person we are looking for has not stepped out yet; it could be a Rick Perry or a Jeb Bush. [Bush] would be a really good president and a good candidate, DeMint says. He had a solid record as governor; he showed that he was willing to push innovative things in education and elsewhere. DeMint says President Obama is clearly beatable. But the GOP nominee, he argues, will need to be formidable, since the president may be able to bounce off of a rebounding economy. Numerous potential candidates, he says, are watching to see where Obamas popularity will be. A lot is going to depend on whether people believe that he has anything to do with the economy coming back. And it will come back; you cant keep the American economy down. NRO wonders: In coming months, if Bush and other conservative favorites decide to sit out 2012, will DeMint feel compelled to jump in? I really am trying to avoid that, he tells us. Im looking for good candidates out there in the field. I would have to feel a strong pull from people all over the country, DeMint says. Again, its not something that, right now, appears to be in my future. But could a grassroots Draft DeMint movement stir him to run? I dont want to suggest that Im waiting for any kind of draft, he says. Its really not what I want to do. I really dont have any intention of running. . . . Im not ruling anything out, but its not something I want to do.DeMint Surveys the Field, Praises Jeb
Almost, but not.
Bush would be better than Obama, but we don’t need someone just ‘cause they are better than Obama. We need someone that is better for America than anyone else in the political theatre of today. We need a leader that is totally Constitution oriented. We need to get back the America that the founders designed, because that America worked.
The America as originally designed was responsible for the success that America became. Nothing the Left has done promoted that success.
I would like to see DeMint run.
Sounds like he’s going to be the “reluctant” candidate. I sure as hell hope he is, anyhow.
When DeMint runs, he is going to need all the help he can get and that includes Florida and Texas. DeMint is (smartly) going to praise everybody under the sun who has clout.
Palin is the one for many of us "ordinary" Americans. However, the inside the beltway elites want someone else. Someone who will protect their turf. Someone they can manipulate. BTW, as good as DeMint may be, he is still one of the beltway elites.
Curious. Why did you praise DeMint for not going to CPAC and yet squeal when Bachmann announced she will?
Not only that, DeMint is a huge RINO.
Everyone’s a RINO. We’re all doomed. Sarah Palin’s a RINO (endorsing gays, dontchaknow). RINO RINO everywhere.
The only no-RINO candidate is

it’s hopeless. We’re doomed. Vote against everyone. Everyone shoot the guy to your left. Just go around the circle. That’s the Conservative way.
They’re all RINOs. It’s over. There’s no hope.
DeMint’s a RINO. Barbour’s a RINO. Perry’s a RINO. Pence is a RINO. They’re all RINOS.
Like Palin’s politics but she’s too radioactive now. Jeb Bush no way. Rick Perry—Gov. good hair perhaps but some dark horse golden conservative out there to ride but there are scant few to foot the bill.
The only thing anyone in the democrat party can run on is “blame Bush.” What are we proposing here? Yep, give them a candidate who can actually give some legs to the democrats’ lame strategy. Brilliant, simply brilliant.
Yeah, I’m tired of the ‘he’s better than _____ argument.’ Like you said, we need someone who’s better for America, plain and simple.
Oh, I forgot. Bachmann’s a RINO and so is God. Let’s destroy them all. It’ll make us feel soooooooooooo superior to all those RINOS.
The Republicans get into a huge internecine fight and when the smoke clears they will all look around and see Obama has been re-elected. ~Rewinding to 1976~
Squeal? that’s what palinistas do.
The Jebster is an amnesty guy too. Another one who should see the inside of a jail.
Answer the question.
Not only was your charging RINO’s post funny, it had a lot of truth in it.
That’s what this is building up to.
