Screw Monuments. What is need are jobs for the returning vets.
If you have a need to build something, build a house. Better yet, buy an abandoned strip mall out of foreclosure and turn it into a homeless vets shelter.
Most ideas from Marines suck. This is a classic example.

Of course,there are a lot of things that our vets need. This is a noble endeavor by a true patriot that is willing to give of his time and energy to call attention to our veterans and their issues.

Well this Marine dad, and brother and uncle of several Marines, all active duty, says you can go pound oily sand. MCQUOWN is doing what he can. He probably doesn't have the money to buy a strip mall. Maybe if you contact him, you can be the first to be a partner in such an endeavor. The more awareness that our military receives, the better they will be. Again, go pound oily sand.
