Cites allegations, reminds of legal protection for whistleblowers
Mike Vanderboegh at Sipsey Street Irregulars has posted copies of two letters from Sen. Charles Grassley to Acting Director Ken Melson of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Per Vanderboegh:
A Sipsey Street Exclusive: Senator Grassley is on the Project Gunwalker scandal case -- big time. These came in over the electronic transom this morning. To all you lurking "news media" types -- if this ain't enough to get you covering this scandal, I don't know what will.
The first letter, dated Jan. 27, expresses "serious concerns" about Project Gunrunner, and notes allegations about the slaying of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry "were accompanied by detailed documentation which appears to lend credibility to the claims and partially corroborates them."
The second letter, dated Jan. 31, copies Attorney General Eric Holder, and reminds acting director Melson that ATF management must respect whistleblower protections and that "obstrucitng a Congressional investigation is a crime."
I have included jpg files of the letters in the sidebar slideshow, and PDF files on Scribd:
Jan. 27 letter
Jan. 31 letter
This development continues to corroborate information Vanderboegh and I have brought to light since the beginning of this month that has been ignored by the mainstream press. Representatives of the media: You have no more excuses not to report on this.

It would be nice if you’d provide a little background on this subject. As post #2 indicates, this isn’t being talked about anywhere else.
What is Gunwalker?

The Obama administration and the MSM trial ballooned the idea that 90% of the the guns used in Mexico violence were smuggled in from the US, and that the US was therefore responsible for the violence. While this number was quickly derided and disproved by the blogosphere, the administration went ahead with a considerable expenditure of millions of dollars to the ATF in order to “stop the flow of guns to Mexico”. For millions of dollars the ATF ended up confiscating a couple of dozen guns, as I recall.
There is ample motive for the ATF to push for some more guns to be smuggled to Mexico to prop up the failing idea of massive amounts of US guns going to Mexico. Only a few dozen would make a tremendous bump up in their statistics; project gunwalker is rumored to involve hundreds of rifles.
The ATF has never been held accountable for their many crimes over the last 40 years. The most common response is that their budget has been increased, as happened after the Waco fiasco. Their total experience is that they will always be given a pass, no matter how badly they mess up, because the MSM loves them. The MSM loves them because the MSM loves the idea of a government monopoly on arms. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2662219/posts http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2662219/posts

Thanks so much for taking the time to do that. You’ve made the issues very clear now, and it’s much appreciated.
Thank you for the easier to read links
this is beyond belief
The MSM should be all over this. It is their responsibility to expose this kind of evil behavior by our Gov’t.
So in the end what they want to do is prove that the statistics ARE correct? (90% is a big number so they’re going to have to walk across A LOT) So if they were actually able to prove that number, would that mean the bobo administration would push for stricter gun control laws here? If so, that makes sense with the rumors that are going around that he’s going to bring up gun control soon...which is absolutely one of the dumbest things he can do, IMHO.
BTW, thanks for the additional links.
No, of course not, that would involve massive numbers of guns. What they likely want to do is provide enough numbers to make their friends in the MSM happy with some photo ops, so that they can justify the millions of dollars that the Obama administration is wasting in an effort to demonize American society at the southern border.
That it would likely increase their budget and power might have occurred to them as well. Remember, to many on the left and in politics, perception *is* reality.
You are welcome. Most of our problems come from a lack of truth in the MSM.
Lower than a grasshopper’s toenail.
Or a very clumsily operated sting.
