Newly inaugurated Republican Sen. Marco Rubio announced his committee assignments in Washington Thursday, setting the stage for the issues he will focus on in his first years on the national stage.

Rubio, the former House speaker who is now considered one of the rising stars of the Republican Party and already the subject of buzz on the 2012 presidential ticket, will serve on these committees: Commerce, Science and Transportation; Foreign Relations; Intelligence; Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

“I’m honored to be a member of these important committees that address some of our nation’s and state’s most important issues,” said Rubio. “This committee portfolio will enable me to work directly on policies to promote private-sector job creation, keep Americans safe and maintain our strong standing in the world.

At the time Arthur was born, a foreign-born child of a citizen *mother* but alien *father* would not have been a citizen at birth, and thus would not be a natural-born citizen. So had Arthur been born in Canada, he would not have been a U.S. citizen at birth.

The overwhelming majority of scholars interpret the natural-born citizen clause to allow persons who were U.S. citizens at birth to qualify for the presidency. That would include, under current law, a foreign-born child of two U.S. citizens.

Rubio is NOT a Natural Born Citizen. Both of his parents, worthy folks that they are, were not citizens at the time of his birth.

Marco's parents were legally admitted into US and it's irrelevant if they were just resident aliens or US citizens at the time of his birth. By law, he IS a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN hence he can serve as the president of the US.

Thanks for reassuring me. If you don't mind, I would like a court to confirm your thoughts, before I join in agreement with them. I and one or two others from around the country are working with the quaint hypotheses that a "Natural Born Citizen" is a person born to two American citizens. Of course, should we not prevail at the bar of justice, drinks at the bar of the VFW are on us.

In the meantime, let us hope that Senator Rubio proves an asset to the state of the " the newly wed and the nearly dead."

The tea party caucus that you and he dismiss got him elected.
Watch his actions as he has lunch with the RINO’s and democrats and gets all PC cozy.

Read what I said. I said "No, he declined to join some senate caucus that calls itself the Tea Party Caucus. Big Deal."

The "tea party caucus" is a group of senators that call themselves tea party. They can call themselves what they want. That's not a slap at the REAL tea party. There is no one single "tea party." Even Tea Party Express doesn't speak for most tea parties. They are a national PAC that do what they do well, but the grassroots tea parties are the local organizations on the grassroots close to home.

Local Florida tea parties are who elected Rubio.

Maybe you could wait to see how he actually votes on the issues. Personally, I don’t want any politicians in the tea party. I want them to vote our way, not to co-opt us for their own political gain.

I don't care about the yapping and hype. I care about actions and votes, not words.

Thanks to the two of you for focusing on the actual topic here, which is: "How will Rubio govern?" His actions within his committee assignments will provide a basis for characterizing his philosophy. This doesn't seem to interest most of the other (narrow-minded, weirdly obsessed) posters here.

Artificial insemination might raise issues if the sperm donor is not of American nationality. And with so many American parents adopting from overseas, I am curious as to what status those children hold.

I don’t know, but you’d have to know the source of the sperm and or egg, but it wouldn’t matter if the child was born here or the mother was a US citizen and the requirements were meant for the child to be considered automatically a US citizen if born outside the US. The question would come up if the sperm came from a US citizen donor and the mother wasn’t a US citizen and the child was born outside the US.

The question really is does a child conceived by one of these new methods qualify as “natural born” or not. Since there is nothing “natural” about artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization. In the case of in vitro the question is also what if the eggs and sperm came from non US citizen donors? When is citizenship confirmed? At conception or delivery?
