That is a vast oversimplification.
This situation cannot be cut down into “we vs they”, though that will be very convenient for groups with their own agenda.
Everything about uprisings are messy...they look a lot more black and white in retrospect and history books...but most are extremely messy and opaque.
All issues always become binary.

In every Sov and PRC embassy, ambassadors getting dressed for weekend cocktail parties are practicing saying.... “See what happens to friends of America..... Even the American people do not support their imperialist policies. Look who they elected....”
