“The few comments Ive seen from the Israeli side have been pretty mild and non-committal - if theyre calling up reserves and going on alert, as they should have already done, theyre *really* low-keying it....”
I don’t think the danger to Israel is near term. It’s going to take some time for the Islamists to kill or intimidate the democracy advocates and to deal with the army. After the Islamists have consolidated power is when things are going to get rough.
Besides, what could Israel say here? “We, for one, welcome our new Muslim Brotherhood overlords,” doesn’t really work for them. “We support Mubarak,” just makes things worse. So silence is golden.
The threat to our interests is more immediate. I hope our embassy has a “delete *.*” command ready to go and I hope we’re doing something about shredding paper today.
The threat to the Coptic Christians is immediate too. A lot of them could die during chaos.
It feels like we’re slouching toward the Tribulation.
We shredded when we left Iran, they put the paper back together, maybe this time we should burn.
