And 1965 was the year I joined the navy and went aboard my first ship to Vietnam. Came back to San Diego for “A” school in 1966 and the Sound Of Music was playing at the theater on Rosecrans Blvd. The Sound of Music was still playing the following year as I departed for Vietnam on my second ship. And still playing when we returned.

In 1985 he was an officer serving on the USS Scott while it shadowed the hijacked cruise ship Achille Lauro in the Mediterranean Sea. It had been hijacked by the Palestinian Liberation Front.
