Check this out - I just read on twitter: (unconfirmed)

“this is very cool of Google - Egyptians can tweet by leaving a voicemail, no Internet needed”

We worked with a small team of engineers from Twitter, Google and SayNow, a company we acquired last week, to make this idea a reality. It’s already live and anyone can tweet by simply leaving a voicemail on one of these international phone numbers (+16504194196 or +390662207294 or +97316199855) and the service will instantly tweet the message using the hashtag #egypt. No Internet connection is required. People can listen to the messages by dialing the same phone numbers or going to twitter.com/speak2tweet.

We hope that this will go some way to helping people in Egypt stay connected at this very difficult time. Our thoughts are with everyone there.

NPR just mentioned that the Muslim Brotherhood is taking a waaaaaaay behind the scenes place, because Mubarak has always used the MB to demonize his entire opposition, and that's why they simply are not in evidence... in the way we'd presume them to be, at a time like this.

Would LUV to know what Bibi is really thinking, YKWIM....

Trying everything to stop the contagion from spreading but I think it’s too late. It will be really bad when the food does run out. I was reading how in the cities a lot of them are really poor and say they are willing to die over this while other’s in the suburbs have taken to finding anything they can like sticks and razors to use for weapons to try and protect their homes and family’s. The police they say have been purposely called off in hopes the people will ask Mubarek to stay so those not rioting are left with no protection. There have been lots of rapes 60 reported so far. It has devolved into anarchy.

Oh man Ike, that’s a sobering take.

I was watching CNN for a bit and found even they are having a hard time coming down solidly for the demonstrators. Blitzer did a couple of interviews with analyists who presented differing views- it was, pardon the expression, fair and balanced ;)

Believe it or not- some people in Egypt are not in favor of the demonstrations- though you’d never know it from the coverage. Some gal reporter interviewed a group of people who said they think there should be changes- but not like this- older woman said if Mubarak goes, what is he replaced with- demonstrating youths from the streets?

At any rate- it was amazing to see CNN actually found some opposing views to show us.

Oh- and Pvt Manning of Wikileaks infamy is taking credit for the revolt in Egypt!!!!!

Yes- that was announced this morning and basically they said “until further notice”...

I keep having this little itching thought waaaaaay in the back of my mind that something’s off. It’s a totally unformed thought so I can’t express it (I know- I should probably get some meds for that!).

” I keep having this little itching thought waaaaaay in the back of my mind that something’s off. “

Maybe it’s the same little alarm bell that’s been going off in my head - and it has to do with silence —

When was the last ‘crisis’, of any description, where there were absolutely NO public utterances by any of the major - or minor - players for days on end??

Since Mubarak’s speech, as far as I can tell, there have been no substantive utterances from Mubarak, the Generals, any senior (or junior) member of Government, or the leadership of the MB - when one would expect lines of everyone from President to dogcatchers to form, and fistfights to break out, anywhere a camera or microphone might appear....

All of the noise is coming from ‘analysts’ and pundits and foreigners, but from within Egypt itself, the silence is eerie....

I found Rush’s take on it interesting. He said it amounts to only 3% of the population that is rioting. He also said it was strange the WH took sides with the MB.

Good points SE Mom. I was speaking to someone about this today. The general public views the situation in Egypt only by what we are viewing on TV. These are the protesters, but what about the silent, reserved ones. These protesters cannot represent everyone in Egypt.

I’m starting to think more and more that this was a manipulated event, the protesters used as pawns, for the overthrow of the president. I agree having a dictator in power for 30 years would get quite old. But, maybe Mubarak and the gang are refusing to give in to manipulation and intimidation because they know who is behind it (MB). Just my two cents as I’m thinking as well.

It’s a tough one, for sure.

Exactly what I was wondering, ...What percentage of people were rioting, thank you!

I usually do not watch Gibbs or 0. Friday I watched both. The chilling thing I got from it is they back MB. Then I read they lifted the ban. We are so in trouble.

Report: Terrorists Use Egypt Situation to Return to Gaza
inn ^ | 1/31/11 | Elad Benari

Posted on Monday, January 31, 2011 6:29:01 PM by Nachum

Al-Jazeera Television reported on Monday that among the thousands of prisoners who have managed to escape from Egyptian prisons since the protests there began, are also terrorists from the Gaza Strip who have been jailed in Egypt.

Among those who have escaped is Hassan Wshah, who was jailed three years ago after he was caught by Egyptian security officials in the Sinai Peninsula and admitted to planning a terrorist attack against Israel.

Wshah is a member of the Army of Islam, an Al-Qaeda inspired Gaza-based terrorist group that wishes to see Gaza run by Sharia (Muslim law). He managed to escape from the Cairo prison on Saturday. Wshah told Al-Jazeera that “the prisoners revolted and started breaking the windows and doors and fled from the cells.” He said that Egyptian soldiers had fired towards the escaped prisoners, killing some and injuring others.

Grad Rockets Hit Southern Israel
inn ^ | 1/31/11 | Elad Benari

Posted on Monday, January 31, 2011 6:31:08 PM by Nachum

A Grad rocket which was fired on Monday evening from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory exploded in the southern Israel town of Netivot.

The rocket hit a parked car. There were no reports of casualties but four people were treated for shock, the Negev District Police said. Residents in the area reported that the “red alert” alarm that is usually heard before a rocket explosion did not work this time.

Several minutes after the rocket attack on Netivot, a second Grad rocket fired from the Gaza Strip exploded in the city of Ofakim. There were no reports of injuries or damage as a result of the attack.

” Heating up folks... “

May things be cooling, though have seen reference of two small rockets into Israel. Holding onto hope from Prayer, not picking up on change.

Ike, are you a prophet, a wizard, or an angel? That crystal ball of yours suddenly appeared in another room, fully intact. My attempt at a joke. No offense intended.
