Rand Paul: End foreign aid, including Israel
JTA ^ | 01/27/2011

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- U.S. Sen. Rand Paul wants to end all foreign assistance, including aid to Israel.

Paul, a Republican newly elected in Kentucky, was on CNN Wednesday outlining where he would cut the $500 billion in government spending he says is critical to sustaining the U.S. economy. His focus was on the departments of energy, education and housing.

Interviewer Wolf Blitzer then asked about foreign assistance, asking if he wanted to end "all foreign aid." Paul said yes, and Blitzer asked him about aid to Israel.

"Well, I think what you have to do is you have to look," Paul said. "When you send foreign aid, you actually [send] quite a bit to Israel's enemies. Islamic nations around Israel get quite a bit of foreign aid, too.

"You have to ask yourself, are we funding an arms race on both sides? I have a lot of sympathy and respect for Israel as a democratic nation, as a, you know, a fountain of peace and a fountain of democracy within the Middle East."

Blitzer pressed, "End all foreign aid including the foreign aid to Israel as well. Is that right?" he asked.

Paul answered, "Yes."

Michael Reagon, in his new book, The New Reagan Revolution” states that the Tea Party movement would have been welcomed by President Reagan as a grass roots movement to hold accountable our GOP leaders. He goes on to say that if the candidates do not represent us, then find candidates who do. We need to have a grass roots conversation about the values of Ronald Reagan and the values of the current GOP, and let these people know that we will only accept the values which will move our nation forward, not backward. Ron, and now, Rand Paul are not espousing the values of Reaganism, and need to either move to join with us, or move aside.

THEY should be buying US as allies, and the same goes for the rest of the lesser countries who want the protection we now freely throw around the world ...

I love it. Now there is a true America first statement. You're supposed to pay the security guard. He doesn't pay you for the privilege of providing security.

Good call.

Considering the most current current events, and if by forsaking all of our allies, including Israel, results in our being destroyed by our enemies, what then?

You give your spookiest, scariest campfire story about how cutting off foreign aid to Israel results in the destruction of the US. Be detailed, I'm all eyes.

You're the one cheerleading, for government spending so let's hear it. Let's see if it's any more plausible or logical than the liberal welfare cut doomsdayers.

Again, I agree with you. I think too many people around here want to pretend if we just ignore what is going on in the rest of the world, than they will just leave us alone. Have we handled things as well as we should? We have not, but to pretend that all we have to do is worry about our own country and to heck with the rest of the world is just infantile.

Reaganism

Way more rhetoric and myth than substance.

The man who signed the first no-fault divorce law in the US, the Mulford Gun Control Act that outlawed carrying in a vehicle in CA, the 1986 FOPA Gun Control Act, a massive tax increase in 1982, chose the RINO George Bush for a running mate, supported the Brady Bill, and worst of all signed an illegal alien amnesty that is very much responsible for Cali slipping into permanent Democrat control and dysfunction.

If Free Republic had existed during his Presidency or Governorships, he would have been torn to shreds as a RINO daily, just on his stance on gun control alone.

You’re so far off the reality map that you can’t post anything coherant.

If we pull the plug on foreign aid, including the source of Israel’s problem: the UN, and stop ‘tolerating’ anything but the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Israel wouldn’t need our ‘help.’ (which is in reality just a teather to allow us to manage their affairs)

If you weren’t too lazy to look back through my posting history, you’d know exactly what I support, but you’re just here to “cool the mark.”

We even have a “preacher” on this thread that has no understanding of God’s word; I wonder where he came from.

Do you have difficulty understanding why the people of the most conservative state in the US so overwhelmingly support Ron Paul?

You don't get it slick.

The U.S. is heading into an economic dark age...

Our standard of living is nose diving, our economy is on the brink.

We don't have the money...

Half of of our American brothers and sisters right here in America have lost it all, with tens of millions out of work etc, while our borders are a lawless violent free for all, compromising our entire system, not to mention creating an epic national defense threat.

Charity and protection of our homeland comes FIRST.

Israel can defend itself just fine...You want to give them money? Hand over your own damn pay check.

>> “Do you really think she would agree with stopping our support of Israel?” <<

.
If you spent as much time reading God’s word as Sarah does, then you’d understand why she hasn’t made and broad statements WRT Israel.

Israel is God’s time piece. Everything about Israel is God’s business, and only his. In his word he rebukes all that would tamper in their affairs, yet we have been doing exactly that.

The only thing we should be doing for Israel is praying and fasting. Let His will be done.

Then pray for Israel, but do not advocate for meddling in their affairs. Everything about Israel is fully in God’s hands.

There is a black Congresswoman from Houston who recently opined that repealing Obamacare would be a denial of the constitutional rights of the gimmes who now regard medical care at the expense of others to be a "property right" and that Congressional action to repeal is somehow not "due process of law." Last I checked, Houston, no less than Galveston, is in Texas. Did the "people of the most conservative state in the US" elect her too???

I have theorized that something has been slipped into the Galveston water system if its people actually and voluntarily vote for such a delusional nincompoop, phony, liar and enemy of our nation as Ron PaleoPaulie. He is a political/genetic product of crossing an ostrich with Neville Chamberlain and matches the social policies of Margaret Sanger with the rhetoric of her principled and conservative opponents while delivering for her agenda though posing for pro-life holy pictures while refusing to DO anything.

Conservatism is NOT some sort of squishball Code Pink peacecreepism in non-Marxist drag and it is a much richer tapestry than mere money worship. PaleoPaulie is a genuinely ubereccentric looney tune who somehow imagines himself a conservative while undermining our military, resisting our friends and allies, supporting our enemies, giving aid and comfort to social revolutionary enemies of our way of life under his curious heresies as to the constitution. He has no more integrity on social issues than he has on earmarks. He should don a straightjacket and head permanently for an insane asylum and give his son whatever chance he may have not to emulate paleoPaulie in his cornucopia of idiocies.

I have difficulty imagining that Comrade O was elected by our nation's electors, but he was. If Galveston elects three consecutive sane and actually conservative human beings to Congress after paleoPaulie goes to Sunnyvale Rest Home, Galveston will merit some consideration as a constituency recovering from the damage it inflicted by repeatedly electing this village idiot to Congress. On social issues and foreign policy (and squandering other people's money on earmarks for his district) he is nothing more than a Demonrat in GOP drag.

Cindy Sheehan is NOT a conservative.

George McGovern is NOT a conservative.

John F'n Kerry is NOT a conservative.

Comrade O is NOT a conservative.

Mohandas Ghandi was NOT a conservative.

Neither is the paleosurrenderman of Galveston.

Closing most foreign military bases is no problem. We do need a network of airbases and naval bases in order to refuel and repair our ships and planes (Alfred Thayer Mahan's insight of the late 19th century).

Cutting the size of gummint is also a worthwhile goal that merits a lot more serious attention than it has ever received. Personally, I would abolish the Education Department (and most spending on "education" federal state and local), the Departments of Energy, HHS, Agriculture, Housing, Commerce, Labor, much of the State Department, wasteful non-military spending in the Pentagon budget, EPA, FDA, almost every bureaucracy invented in the last fifty years and many that are older, Peace Corps, VISTA, the "Peace Institute," etc., ad infinitum. I fail to understand why it is that we have a Federal Reserve Bank (or its equivalent) as we did not from Andrew Jackson to Woodrow Wilson. Somehow, both sides managed to fight the War Between the States without central banks.

When we have (hopefully rather immediately) abolished those gushing water mains of gummint waste, we should then prioritize round 2 of the cutting of government. When we have abolished enough net spending, slash payroll and income taxes until they are gone.

As to those wars (and any others), my generation of conservatives were quite instrumental in abolishing the military draft. We did not go far enough. There should be no registration for a draft, now or ever again. There should never be a draft again, military or non-military. Service should be strictly voluntary and the recall of reservists for multiple tours in the war zone should never be repeated. Win wars furiously, fearsomely and promptly and it won't be necessary to recall reservists for multiple tours. In the Iraq War, Fallujah should have been surrounded, two days' notice given for its people to pass through American checkpoints on their way out, and then utterly incinerated along with those who insisted on staying to resist.

Today's generation of conservatives might like to take up the challenge of seeing 1) that we will fight wars whenever deemed necessary in our nation's interest, fight such wars to prompt victory, ignore critics while absolutely crushing enemies who deserve crushing and NO NATION BUILDING; 2) that Iraq and Afghanistan will absolutely be the last wars this nation will EVER fight at length. As Machiavelli wrote, it is better to be feared than to be loved and we are unlikely to be loved in any event. So be it.

All that having been said, let paleoPaulie run again (for the very last time) in 2012, let him get his ass kicked again by actual conservatives in the nomination contest and then we can get on with the important tasks of taking back the Senate and disposing of Comrade O.

Israel is an Island surrounded by sharks, and you want to inflict a minor injury upon them and toss them in the water to see if they are eaten or if they survive. Wow!

No, it's you who don't get it, CHUM!

We end our support of Israel, and they will be annihilated by those who surround them (and who are also our enemies). Apparently you're okay with the death of Israel. Pathetic.

Cut all foreign aid. Get troops out of the balkans too. The USA is broke.

Agreed. Let the Serbs take care of business. We supported the wrong side.

Exactly. With the problems we are having, why send billions and billions to foreign countries?

Infantile, and extremely dangerous. These isolationists have not the capacity to understand just how dangerous their ideology is to our Democracy. Sure, for a time, if we cut all aid to all foreign governments, we might not experience the fallout of that action. But, it would be an extremely short time, with the benefits never outweighing the damage. The world teeters on the brink, and the U.S. is the only entity that keeps it at that level. Remove all reason for countries to restrain and refrain, well, IMO WWII would look like the good ol days.
