WASHINGTON (JTA) -- U.S. Sen. Rand Paul wants to end all foreign assistance, including aid to Israel.
Paul, a Republican newly elected in Kentucky, was on CNN Wednesday outlining where he would cut the $500 billion in government spending he says is critical to sustaining the U.S. economy. His focus was on the departments of energy, education and housing.
Interviewer Wolf Blitzer then asked about foreign assistance, asking if he wanted to end "all foreign aid." Paul said yes, and Blitzer asked him about aid to Israel.
"Well, I think what you have to do is you have to look," Paul said. "When you send foreign aid, you actually [send] quite a bit to Israel's enemies. Islamic nations around Israel get quite a bit of foreign aid, too.
"You have to ask yourself, are we funding an arms race on both sides? I have a lot of sympathy and respect for Israel as a democratic nation, as a, you know, a fountain of peace and a fountain of democracy within the Middle East."
Blitzer pressed, "End all foreign aid including the foreign aid to Israel as well. Is that right?" he asked.
Paul answered, "Yes."

You really don’t pay much attention to reality, do you.
Jim’s sister died yesterday and he doesn’t wish to be bothered.
Time to face truth.
What are you, president of some homeowners association?
Absolutely pathetic...
You really want to go there? I thought you had better sense. Perhaps I was mistaken.
>> “There is nothing wrong with standing with your friends and allies and making sure they don’t get overwhelmed.” <<
.
Is there anything wrong with feeding the military of both sides to keep multi-national arms industries rolling in our tax dollars?
Wake up. this troll is a shill for the arms industry, not for security or freedom.
>> “And Isreal is a very conservative ally of ours...” <<
.
You’re an ignorant idiot.
Israel is a radical socialist country that shoots itself in the foot all the time by allowing its avowed enemies to live freely in their country. Conservative?? Gimmie a break.
The U.S. is headed into the economic dark ages...We don't have the money for international welfare. ENOUGH!
Israel can take care of itself, if not, we can still assist without dumping billions of our tax dollars into Israel.
Screw foreign aid, and the U.N.
Why are you bugging Jim, he is mourning his dead sister right now.
No I did not know that. I am very sorry to hear that as well.
During the past years I have had my share of heart ache in this regard as well. My girlfriends son who was only 28 yrs old was killed a year ago. It is still hard to deal with.
My heart and prayers go out for Jim and his family.
I am sorry if my ping to him came at a bad time at all. Nothing is as important as a loved one and I pray for him and his family at this time.
I don’t really give a damn what you’re against. I do know that Ronald Reagan would never agree to ending aid to Israel. I’ll stand with his position before I’ll ever consider yours.
Really classy way to break that news. Thanks.
I heard the same thing..they have the same problem with an infiltration of lefties as we do only worse (if that is possible at this point).
The main thing is though..we are out of money.
So then we should cut our massive entitlement programs and domestic government over-expansion and public union entitlements.
NOT cut our National Security and support of our allies.
It is those who are supporting Paul who are the trolls. They seek to use the issue of massive government spending as a means to create rabid propaganda for cutting our defense.
The Pauls ave aa two-planck agenda for undermining America.
Undermine our currency.
Undermine our Naitonal Defense.
They are very sly the way they try to disguise it as being conservative but they are Code Pink types 100%.
That is entirely TRUE.
Karl Rove. What has happened, and is happening, is the Bush people, largely Rove but others as well, the neocons, who shaped the Bush policies, have been attacking Conservatives, the tea party. We saw this clearly with Christine O’Donnell, the conservative tea party candidate who was attacked by Rove and the neocons who supported Mike Castle, a full Snowe/Collins level RINO.
Back in 2007, many or most did think of Bush as a largely, at least somewhat, conservative. We certainly did not like the Republican Presidents policies being attacked by another Republican. Bush had to do something really really bad (Harriet Miers) for us to complain.
4 years later, Ron Paul’s policy suggestions are not a commentary on a Republican President anymore. They’re a commentary on Obama. A lot of people didn’t like negative commentary about a Republican President. That’s all gone now.
When Rove reveals so extremely clearly that he’s hostile to Conservatives, it makes it very clear that the conservativeness of ALL Bush Policies should be looked at very closely. Do we need endless wars? Wasn’t endless wars just like Vietnam? Wasn’t that Kennedy and Johnson? Weren’t they Democrats? Wasn’t Reagan the Conservative one in 1980 and Bush the Liberal one? And Bush was picked to “balance” the ticket (by the way, no more of that). No big wars under 8 years of Reagan, 4 years of Bush I gives us Iraq I and 8 years of Bush II gives Iraq II and Afghanistan.
We probably could have skipped all that.
Another thing to consider is that Tea Party here, these days, is more the home team than the Republican Party. And not too many Tea Party candidates have been elected. And Rand Paul is one of not too many Tea Party Senators. If we’re Tea Party, we really should like what our Tea Party Senators are all about. And I think that we do, for the most part.
Right.
Aren’t we Tea Party here, mostly these days?
Isn’t Rand one of, I think, 3 Tea Party Senators?
Almost everything he’s saying, proposing in terms of domestic cuts is exactly what we want.
So in your mind claiming that Iran has a right to nuclear weapons, claiming that homosexual behavior has special rights in our military, and claiming support of the Victory mosque at Ground Zero are all Tea party positions?
These are all positions taken by Ron Paul, the pevert.
You are a pathetic joke.
Infiltration? The country was founded with the intent of being a Socialist nation.
As for the topic of this thread, you hit the nail on the head. We're out of money. Period, end of story and it's time to take care of the homefront first and foremost.
