His call to end subsidies for oil companies to give to alternative fuels research was STUPID !!!

What do ya think is gonna happen ???

Oil companies will raise the price of oil, which will NOT ONLY raise the price of gasoline for consumers, but will raise the price of producing ALL goods and services, which in turn will raise the price OF EVERYTHING for the consumer.

Its no different than Cap & Trade - politicians may be able to claim that they didn’t raise taxes, but it IS STILL money out-of-pocket for “Joe Six-Pack” ...

It is one thing to allocate more money for research [as long as you take it from non-essential programs], but to take money away from the life blood of the economy and give to research that MIGHT [OR MIGHT NOT] work is INSANE !!!

Thanks so much for this live thread, kristinn. Unfortunately I wasn't able to take part in the fun of this live thread since FR crashed yet again, starting soon after the SOTU address began just after 9pm ET.

It's really a shame these crashes and slowdowns have been happening so much over the past year or so every time there's a big event going on where more FReepers than usual try to access this site.
