The new Republican House majority leader says he doesn't think questions about President Barack Obama's citizenship should play a role in the discussion of policy matters.

Two years into the Obama administration, so-called birthers continue to argue that Obama isn't a natural-born citizen and that he hasn't proved he's constitutionally qualified to be president. Birth records in Hawaii haven't dissuaded them.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor says he believes Obama is a citizen and that most Americans are beyond that question.

So, focus on this: Why can't Speaker Boehner or Congressman Issa just subpoena these materials?

Most likely it’s because they have had consultations with the former Republican administration in Hawai’i including Governor Lingle and Director of Health Fukino and those officials have communicated to them to leave this issue alone.
Congressman Issa has already said that he won’t investigate anything regarding Obama that precedes his inauguration.

Well, that is the queation I've been asking. I hate to think that it's just that they're too timid to send out a subpoena, but that could be it. Boehner and Issa may be guys who don't have any kind of philosophical or political agenda beyond just playing prominent roles and occupying prominent positions. Maybe they're ignorant about what the constitution requires.

I don't like any of those answers. Why do you think they haven't subpoenaed the materials?

I think it might be because officials of a Republican Administration in Hawaii have confirmed that Barack Obama is a natural born American citizen and in three plus years of trying, including 12 different attempts at the Supreme Court of the United States, no ruling has found that he isn’t a natural born citizen.

That was my take as well - I finally got around to watching the actual clip and I was appalled at David Gregory's line of “questioning”. He was rabid in his determination to force Cantor into insulting any American who has legitimate questions about why SO MUCH of Obama’s past is hidden.

That tells me that there is something there and the media is desperate to keep it hidden because they know all of their credibility (what little remains) is gone once the truth is known.

I didn't always agree with Tim Russert but I respected his efforts to get factual information in front of the viewers. I wonder what he would have done in this situation.....

But I believe I read that if a child’s parents declare him to be a citizen of another country, he is not to be held to their decision...and has until his 18th or 21st birthday to re-establish his citizenship??
