Is custom in Hawaii to “lei” them on departure???

I have received YES and NO answers to that question...but I do not believe the lei are real, they appear to have been added.

I lived in HI for quite a few years and my view is it’s more common to lei ‘em on arrival but departure as well. Graduations, etc.

Usually more people would be there to greet an arrival than to say goodbye to a departing person. No ironclad rules.

To me it looks more a welcome than a farewell ceremony!!!
