SEOUL/WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States warned China it would redeploy forces in Asia if Beijing failed to rein in North Korea, an Obama administration official said on Friday, as Pyongyang bowed to Seoul's demands for crisis talks.

President Barack Obama's warning had persuaded China -- the North's main diplomatic and economic backer -- to take a harder line toward Pyongyang, and opened the door to a resumption of inter-Korean talks, possibly next month, the official said, confirming a report in The New York Times.

Wang Dong of Peking University's School of International Studies said Washington's reported warning to Beijing was a slap in the face for the Chinese leader, who has urged the two Koreas to resolve their differences through dialogue.

Trying to decide if this is a legit story or satire.....

Wasn’t there a recent story about Chinese troops entering North Korea?

What happened to talk? It seems pretty belligerent of Obama.

But my suspicion is that Hu’s interpreter just misinterpreted Clinton when she said that if Hu did not do something to fix the problem, she was “going to start throwing China.”

Yep. From Jan 15:

China is in discussions with North Korea about stationing its troops in the isolated state for the first time since 1994, a South Korean newspaper reported Saturday.

The Chosun Ilbo newspaper quoted an anonymous official at the presidential Blue House as saying that Beijing and Pyongyang recently discussed details of stationing Chinese soldiers in the North's northeastern city of Rason.

The official said the soldiers would protect Chinese port facilities, but the location also gives access to the Sea of Japan (East Sea), while a senior security official was quoted as saying it would allow China to intervene in case of North Korean instability.

No doubt but it has also been posted at F.R. about N.K. troops entering China chasing their own border jumpers. They had to have this pre approved by the Chinese or it would not have happened.

The Communist Chinese will say one thing....and do another. Obama is a Free Trade Globalist-Communist wuss

The only way to get Communist China to cooperate is to slap tariffs on Communist Chinese goods. The America-Hating Free Trader Globalists will whine and spittle....but until you show Communist China you mean business...they will just laugh in your face.

Obama and Free Trade Communists are the biggest reasons why the US cannot gain traction on North Korea and Communist China. Bad economics is leading to bad foreign policy.
