Remember, they only count people who are receiving an unemployment check. If your unemployment has run out, if you are living on savings and never applied for it, if you graduated from school and can’t find work and don’t qualify for unemployment, you are not counted as “unemployed”.
Are they counting the part-timers as “employed” now? I seem to remember that unless one was working a certain number of hours per week, they didn’t count.
WRONG!
This myth still goes on. The rate is deduced from a phone survey about whether you’re working and if you’re not then you have to be looking to count. This one goes by no other stats.
