DES MOINES, Iowa --As Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann makes the rounds in Iowa on Friday, Republican officials and grassroots activists here are largely united in their belief that she is very serious about considering a presidential run and has already begun conducting the significant statewide outreach that is required to launch an effective campaign.
ABC News broke the story earlier this month that Bachmann was considering a campaign and would deliver the keynote address for a meeting hosted by Iowans for Tax Relief, an influential advocacy group in the nation's first voting state. Bachmann's communications director Doug Sachtleben told RealClearPolitics that the outspoken congresswoman's initial float has been well received.
"It's certainly something that people are encouraging her to do," Sachtleben said of a potential presidential campaign. "Ever since the story came out, it's been very positive feedback."
Bachmann will speak for about a half hour on Friday in front of an expected crowd of about 200 and a substantial national media presence.
Rather than focusing on the specific policy debates of the moment, Bachmann's speech will focus on broad themes about the direction of the country and will include references to one of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's favorite topics: the concept of American exceptionalism.

MB Ping
I mean I like her but she has almost as much of a chance as Hunter did...seriously.
At least she's wise enough to know who could be a genuine worthy candidate by trying to copy her (Palin).
I’ll take Bachmann over Palin any day of the week. Palin needs to stay in Alaska and cheerlead from there.
So you bag on Palin and are putting forth Bachmann as the alternative. Give me a break. Neither one of them can win, but of the two Bachmann has the least going for her.
Maybe she could start aping McCain’s amnesty plan, start believing in global warming and carbon caps, and cheerlead for TARP like Precious. Then she’d be REAL exciting.
At least Bachmann is a conservative.
She has no intentions on running. So I wouldn’t waste time getting too excited about it.
I almost have a better chance of being the GOP nominee than a congressperson. Governors, senators and generals are who we elect to that office.
It’s far more likely she runs than Palin.
It’s far more likely she runs than Palin.
Yes, it’s far more likely MB gets the nomination.
Palin has a problem with so many people hating her - have you seen the email with pics of her in a red, white and blue bikini & rifle and her kids with huge bottles of booze?
MB doesn’t have that problem; no one calls her a nutcase conservative.
MB is the Tea Party favorite over Palin (at least with white male voters).
LOL
She’d be a nice veep for Sarah Palin.
Bachmann hasn’t really stuck her neck out nationally like Sarah Palin did. Let Bachmann show herself as serious and just watch the, er, lefty “vitriol” flow.
if either Palin or Bachmann win the nomination, they should choose a military guy as VP.
Have you ever heard of Photoshop? Don’t believe everything you see on the internet.
I like Bachmann. And when I’ve seen her put up with half the crap that Palin has, for half the period of time, and still generate half the enthusialm, then I’ll take her half as seriously.
When Palin becomes 1/2 as conservative as Michele, I’ll take her 1/2 seriously.
And when I see Bachmann actually do some heavy lifting, then I’ll her half as seriously.
