If you want to get rid of stereotypes, you must first get rid of the behaviour that allows those stereotypes to stick around....
Almost all stereotypes have some basis in reality. Just because they’re not true in ALL instances doesn’t mean they’re not true in SOME. And if one such instance can mean life or death, it’s probably safer to err on the side of caution. If you’re wrong, there’s no harm done except a needless elevation of your blood pressure. But if you give the benefit of doubt to someone who doesn’t deserve it, you can end up dead.
