New Ala. gov: Just Christians are his family

Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley told a church crowd just moments into his new administration that those who have not accepted Jesus as their savior are not his brothers and sisters, shocking some critics who questioned Tuesday whether he can be fair to non-Christians.

"Anybody here today who has not accepted Jesus Christ as their savior, I'm telling you, you're not my brother and you're not my sister, and I want to be your brother," Bentley said Monday, his inauguration day, according to The Birmingham News.

The Anti-Defamation League on Tuesday called Bentley's remarks shocking.

"His comments are not only offensive, but also raise serious questions as to whether non-Christians can expect to receive equal treatment during his tenure as governor," said Bill Nigut, the ADL's regional director.

Speaking at Dexter Avenue King Memorial Church after the official inaugural ceremony, Bentley told the crowd that he considered anyone who believed in Jesus to be his brothers and sisters regardless of color, but anyone who isn't a Christian doesn't have that same relationship to him.

"If the Holy Spirit lives in you that makes you my brothers and sisters. Anyone who has not accepted Jesus, I want to be your brothers and sisters, too," Bentley said.

There was a tribe in the Arabian Peninsula who did worship an idol which they called “Allah” or “Allat”. Mohammed got rid of all the other idols and made his tribal god The “God” of the Arabic people. As far as I can tell in my studies, the idol is still there, it is the black stone they all try to touch while performing the Haj.

Al-Lat, the Islamic Moon Goddess

It's embedded in one cornerstone of the Kaaba, that black cube in Mecca they circle around. They are supposed to kiss it (hopefully without catching any STDs, LOL).

How can you be a member of the club if you reject the club?

The club is not exclusive, anyone can join.

They want their cake and eat it too.

"Do you really believe that only Christians can go to Heaven? "

========================================

1 John 5:11-12
11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

John 14:6
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Just before the Iraq invasion, Saddam Hussein received permission to go on the Hajj, take cameramen, and film himself making the seven perambulations and touch the stone. The film is still available on youtube. The funny part is the glimpses of his Fedayeen pushing other people out of the way so that Saddam could do all this on film with no one around him. He was trying to build his cred as a devout Muslim so that other Muslims would help fight for him against us. It did seem to work, although it didn't help his personal situation at all.

“No one comes to the Father except through me. “

You can interpret that to mean that Christ is the REASON anyone is saved, but not that someone must necessarily believe in Him in order to be saved.

Its illogical that God would condemn decent, good Human Beings to an eternity of Hell because they never heard of Him, or were raised in another religion.

Does he want those of us who do not belong to the Christian faith to adopt his faith?

Yes, he does.

I don't get the argument against this. "Brother and Sister in Christ" is a pretty mainstream concept. If there isn't some limit on who is your brother and sister, than what is the point of saying someone is your "brother" or "sister"?

It's almost as if we are arguing that saying someone is your brother should be the same as saying they are human, like if you get elected governor you should think everybody in the world is your brother or sister.

If he had said this at his inaugeration (as the article certainly tries to mislead it's readers to think), it would be problematic, because proselytising isn't really part of the governor's job, and shouldn't be part of his official actions.

But what he does on his own time is his business, and if he wants to go to church and tell the attendees that they should accept Christ, that's what God told us ALL to do, and if you can't do that IN A CHRISTIAN CHURCH, where WOULD you be allowed to do it?

I'd love to see just ONE of these complainers have the guts to say that Obama should stop talking about blacks, because he's alienating all the white people.

Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me,
Let their be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be,
with God as our father, brothers all are we,
let me walk with my brother,
in perfect harmony (harmony)
Let there be peace on earth, let this be the moment now,
with every step I take, let this be my solemn vow
to take each moment and live each moment
in peace eternally
let there be peace on earth, and let it beging with me.

No, we really aren’t all brothers and sisters. We are all God’s creation. Christians are brothers and sisters in Christ. When sitting in a church, talking about the christian family, that family consists of people who believe in Christ, and accept his sacrifice.

You’d think a non-Christian would be MORE upset if a Christian tried to claim that the non-Christian was a brother in Christ.

I know I’d be pretty upset if some islamist tried to argue that I was an Islamic Brother.

Isaiah 55:8-9

8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the LORD.
9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

It’s not my call for anyone but me.

But if one accepts the truths set out in Scripture, and I do, I see no wiggle room.

His statement was completely taken out of context. And it wasn’t his inaguration speech it was at a church. But I agree he should be more careful with his words because conservatives don’t get a free pass like the liberals do. That said I think he is a refreshing change & is even refusing to take a paycheck until Alabama reaches full employment. I am proud to say I voted for him.

Why should Gov. Bentley, obviously a Christian, apologize to the pagans whose very culture, society, and right to say such asinine things is a product of Christian thought. He’s said nothing that’s out of line with commonly accepted Christian doctrine. I understand there are political ramifications, but at some point, we have to start saying what we mean.
