Thanks Fractal Trader. The plan has been to use a modern elephant as the host (and probably genetic contributor) to birth the critter. One plan called for the use of actual mammoth semen to artificially inseminate living elephants, and then generation by generation breed in more and more of the mammoth chromosomes. Gestation on an elephant is, what, over a year? Two years?
