If dude or dudette has a dedicated server from GoDaddy, he or she has got a small chance of handling the server load. Best, though, to have a load balancer, several application servers, and talk to several mirrored SQL databases.

But only the domain is registered at GoDaddy. The site is hosted at onlineinstitute.com, with out of the box SMF forum software installed. The IP isn’t listed as oiservers, onlineinstitute.com or similar, but assigned to LiquidWeb. So OI is renting server space from LW, then parceling out virtual websites or virtual servers from there. I’ve seen this before. If OI was so big as to have CBS, Sony, ABC as clients, wouldn’t the IP be listed in ARIN as OI’s not LW’s?

Even senderbase.org shows OI as assigned the 69.167.173.234/31 block, which is only two IP’s if I remember correctly. LW is assigned the 69.167.128.0/18 block. OI is only listed as a “domain” under LW. So OI looks like it’s a reseller/VAR of LW. Netcraft has oliserver.com running linux/Apache at 69.167.173.235

My reasoning was that if OI isn’t big enough to own it’s own IP block, they’re probably selling VPS’s on their two IP’s- not something that I could see that would handle much of a website, let alone a forum with an amount of traffic.

But then what do I know? I’m one of those who think that FR is doing things pretty much right as it is. Don’t want no emoticons, banner ads, pop ups, pop unders or that krap(tm).

Thanks for your thoughts. #;^D
