In the wake of the Tucson tragedy the left has made quite the big deal of a map that Sarah Palin put on her website To listen to the media murmur you would think that Palins Map was the primary, if not the sole cause of the shooting of Democratic Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and the murder of six innocent people. The New York Daily News opined that Giffords' blood was on Sarah Palins hands because she put a cross hair over Giffords' Arizona district on her map. Today on virtually every broadcast and cable news show you will see talking heads referring to the cross hairs on Palins map.
OK just what map are we talking about here? Several months ago during the heat of the 2008 midterm elections Sarah Palin put Giffords on her target list of Democrats in vulnerable districts who voted for ObamaCare. The list included a map featuring what the media and those on the left are calling telescopic sight images placed over vulnerable districts. Somehow, the liberals have construed that to mean that Sarah Palin literally wanted to target Giffords to be shot.
Were the symbols on Palins map really the crosshairs through a gun sight, as claimed, prior to the shooting, by Congresswoman Giffords herself? Palins office says they were not. They claim they were surveyors marks. So whos right?
Well start our quest for the truth with an actual look at the map that was posted on Palins website:
OK An argument could be made that those are cross hairs. But Palins office says they were surveyors marks. Can that argument be sustained? Heres a link for you to peruse. The link leads you to a booklet from the U.S. Geological Survey titled Topographic Map Symbols. After youve clicked on the link start scrolling down the page. About halfway through on the right column you will see CONTROL DATA AND MONUMENTS. Now remember .. these are symbols for maps as in Sarah Palins Map. The first entry under the title bar is labeled Principal point, and there you have it. Just to the right. Just about the exact same symbol that appears on the Palin map. Well, by goodness, it would seem that it is indeed a surveyors symbol! A map symbol! Just what you might expect to find on a . MAP!
Crosshairs are placed on people. Map symbols are placed on maps. Its a pretty simple concept, really.
But I know that this isnt going to be good enough for many of you. There is, after all, a political advantage that can be gained by insisting that those are crosshairs on the Palin map. Thats why many in the ObamaMedia will continue to run with that cross hairs scenario. It works for them, so stick with it in spite of the facts.
Well, theres not much we can do about that. Fine; but before we move on why not take a look at just two more maps?
The above map appeared on the website of the Democratic Leadership Committee back in 2004. Please make note of the use of the word enemy to refer to Republicans, as well as the phrase ripe targets for Democrats. Youve already notice that on this map there are no surveyors marks. What you have are bulls-eyes. Yup bulls-eyes. Clearly the type of bulls eyes you would use for a target for shooting purposes. Ahhh .. but these are Republicans being targeted by Democrats. So, no harm, no foul.
Now .. another map:
This map was posted on the website of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee about a year ago. Do you see any surveyors marks or anything that could be mistaken for surveyors marks? Nope. But what DO we see? Looks to me like there are some bulls-eyes there. Targets, pure and simple, plus a map legend that said the bulls eyes represented targeted Republicans. You need to know that this week Democrat Congressman Chris Van Hollen was quick to make an appearance on MSNBC with Chris (of the tingly leg) Matthews to condemn the Palin Map. He said that it was really dangerous to try to make your point in that particular way. Christ Van Hollen was the leader of the DCCC when the above map was placed on their website.
Of course none of this makes any difference whatsoever to those of the leftist persuasion who are determined to seize on this tragedy for political gain. You, though, now see how phony, not to mention hypocritical, this Palins Map nonsense is.
A waste of breath. The state run media in America is no more interested in the truth than was Pravda under Stalin or the People’s Daily.
Its been this way for thousands of years (since Cain and Abel, and Issac and Ishmael in the Bible). Our job is to treat these attacks as just that and move on to the real substantive issues that the CM's want to stay away from.
Someone should start a thread naming all the causes the government and media have blamed this mass murder on.. Feel free to add anyone or group I might have missed.
1. White People.
2. Afghanistan veterans.
3. The GOP.
4. Conservatives.
5. The Tea Party.
6. Gun owners.
7. The NRA.
8. Independent voters.
9. People that display American flags.
10. Rush Limbaugh & talk radio.
11. White people who are sane, but faking it.
12. Maps/bulls eyes/cross hairs.
Bingo! ALL TV, all Hollywood and all of the media support him. Fox is only marginally better and Neil Boortz is an anti-birther. TV will do their best to destroy Plain.
Americans monthly cable and sat TV payments enable the people destroying America.
If Palin had used check marks, the left would be screaming that these were merely proxies for gun sights.
What could Sarah Palin do to hurt her enemies the most?
Run as an Independent.
It is time for a reckoning.
Yeah, but many of those who claim they are independent are really democrats, but are ashamed to admit it. What party do they attack? The GOP, not the democratic party and that is a fact
Maybe she could run in a Conservative, Patriot, or American Party.
Anything she wants.
As long as she gets away from the GOP, and destroys them like they are destroying her.
It would be a beautiful thing to see.
You are not any better then a liberal who tells other law abiding citizen that hey can not have a gun, because she or she doesn't like guns. Or tell others what they can eat
If she ever creates a similar map, she could use poppies! No, that won’t work - then they’d accuse her of promoting heroin production.
I do not get from Frantzie’s post here that he’s in favor of telling ANYONE that they CAN’T watch TV. I believe, as should you, that Frantzie believes in a free country; so do as you wish. But I do support Frantzie’s calls to stop feeding this beast called Media. I have been without broadcast or cable TV for more than 12 years and I would recommend it to anyone. Notice I did not say, I expect everyone to do the same; and neither did Frantzie to my eyes.
There is very little doubt to me that what empowers the Media to wage this constant and one-sided battle against conservative ideas and to sell the Liberal mantras is their massive revenue from cable, satellite, and lucrative advertising $$ which sells products to the masses, including YOU. If we want to cut off the Liberal message, we would be WISE to cut the Cable. It’s not mandatory to do so, but a WISE choice none the less. IF it can be done in numbers approaching an effective ‘boycott’ level, then I think Media will either hurry up and die OR change their message to be more representative of ALL American values.
And even if that’s not the result, the smaller numbers of eyes on their daily mind numbingly stupid so-called news, information, and entertainment would at least result in a better more awake country and informed public through other means.
TV & the Saudis are to Franztie what the Jews/Bolsheivism were to Julius Streicher.
Because the leftist word police have officially linked the word target with mass murder I now shriek in horror every time I drive by my local Target store.
Good post...
The nutball shooter was registered as an Independent. It sounds like he had supported Gifford. I doubt that he was on a mailing list or anything where he would have even SEEN that campaign postcard of Palin’s.
