Republican U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison has announced that she will retire after her current term expires.

In a letter released Thursday, Hutchison said she will not run for re-election in 2012. Hutchison has said she might retire and then changed her mind several times in the last few years. In 2010, she challenged Gov. Rick Perry in the Republican primary for governor, but lost.

Hutchison has been in the Senate since 1993.

“The moniker stuck to her like stink on a skunk.”

That’s beautiful! May I use it?

There will be a plenty lined up I expect. It remains to see who will be viable in the presidential year........

From the DMN is a note of some potential candidates on both sides of the aisle.

Likely Republican contenders to succeed her include Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert , state Sen. Florence Shapiro of Plano , Railroad Commissioners Elizabeth Ames Jones and Michael Williams, Weatherford car dealer Roger Williams, and Ted Cruz, a former Texas solicitor general and candidate for state attorney general.

Possible Democratic contenders include former Texas Comptroller John Sharp and former Houston mayor Bill White.

If you intend to irritate the hell out of Libtards with it, then by all means, yes.

Really? The Perry bomb that stuck the most for me was Kay Bailout.

That's pretty good.

I've also heard her called Kay Booby-Hatch-and-Some.

Anyway you slice it, we need to replace Corny and her with, say, another pair of Jim DeMints and/or or Rand Pauls.

NOT Tom Leppert. He’s a global warming RINO.

She’s similiar to Farve. Wait until 2012 and time expires for her to legally run before assuming she won’t.

I'd really like to see Louie Gohmert standing up strong for Texas and true American values in the senate.

Gohmert is my my rep. He'd be an excellent choice. All the right people hate him.

Neither RINO will have a chance, thank God.

There were the prior candidates:
Michael Williams
Roger Williams
Elizabeth Ames Jones

More may jump in now. Dewhurst?

I like Michael Williams.

‘Bout time. How old is she? About 150? Why do these people hang around so long? What makes them think they’re the only ones capable of representing their state’s citizens?

You can take this to the bank - Dewhurst will run and start off as the front runner. He’s a slimeball that flies below the radar, and like Strauss, is no better than Kay Bailey. We need someone like Michael Williams, Lamar Smith, or Ted Poe.
