Really? Mental health isn't covered under HIPAA?

A few points. If he did fail a drug test, shouldn’t that info be passed along to prohibit him from purchasing a gun? I’m not for testing, but he opened the door and got himself on record with the Federal Gov’t as being a drug user. I don’t think anyone is ok with giving an active drug addict a gun.
In addition, I don’t think any politician has done enough to make people realize that Gov’r run health care means you have no privacy when it comes to your medical records.
Finally, the Virginia Tech case would be the “slippery slope” that was mentioned. A clear case of long term mental illness for the shooter. Your medical records are private. He gets his guns legally. That’s a slippery slope indeed and I’m sure one the courts will kick around eventually.
