Wow, I knew that the KKK was very active in the 1920s in several parts of the country, but didn't realize that they were visible in Arizona, nor that they were demonstrating in front of Jewish-owned stores. (Fortunately, the KKK essentially folded there and Goldwater's went on to become a sizable chain of stores in the West.)
I read Barry Goldwater's autobiography and, to the best of my recollection, he made no mention of this incident.
